Odd picture of McCain on the CNN frontpage...
Did anyone else notice this picture of McCain that was up on the CNN frontpage?

His face looks so odd, so misshapen. Even his eyes are different sizes... Either his health is taking a real turn for the worse, or they are just now finally showing us how damaged he really looks. Scary, huh?

3. His left eye is rheumy looking probably from the lymph edema.
I'm not sure what the treatment for the problem is for him. He may already have mets in his brain by now. This could explain his exhaustion (also from being an elderly man on a physically challenging schedule) confusion, dizziness, and mood and personality problems. Some additional symptoms could include twitching in eye, blurred vision, seizures, short term memory loss and headaches. We REALLY need to see those medical records!
Her are some other cancer victims discussing symptoms of brain mets.

8. So you think that swelling in his face is from fluid retention?
and due to the cancer? Do you think it's a residual effect from the surgery he had before, or do you think it's progressing? I am kinda amazed that there is a picture of him out there like this... he looks so ill.

14. First of all eww....
Second of all... I assume both of his "jowls" are equal in their weirdness, unlike McCain who has asymmetrical jowls... and therein is the concern;)

17. lymph edema
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 07:01 PM by jpertello
is due to the retention of lymphatic fluid which now has nowhere to go since he had 33 nodes and a salivary gland removed. The eye is looking like there's some pressure behind it from the fluids (hence the smallish left eye). I am also guessing that the chemo has left him "chemo stupid" or with "chemo brain" (as some cancer patients say) causing the symptoms of dementia.
It is obvious that he is dragging himself to the finish line. He is a very very sick man.

sadly enough:( It is amazing to me that there aren't any provisions to prevent someone this ill from taking office. I guess I always thought that the president's (or potential pres) physical condition was public record.... O silly me!

33. No Chemo?
He hasn't taken chemo for Stage II, Now Stage IIIC melanoma? Is he insane???

Really, take it from me folks. I know what a Stage IIIC Melanoma looks like. He is definitely in Stage III! It breaks my heart to see how my sister suffered with this disease and she took every single treatment they suggested. Melanoma is a deadly cancer. JoHn McCain is a dead man walking.

I swear to god the guy gets botox injections to make himself look less old.

But, yeah, overall the guy isn't the picture of health.

I suppose that's reasonably normal these days.. Would that make his eyes so asymmetrical? and would that make the side of his face jut out like that?

*reminding myself to never get a botox injection!*

26. I was yacking with my husband about this earlier....
My theory was a series of mini-strokes, he has opted for a metastasized melanoma that required the removal of his entire jaw bone, and now, as he's got a prosthetic, it doesn't quite hold his face up right.

We were deeeeeeeeeeeep in the tinfoil!!!!

McCain's $5,000 Makeup: Will There Be Backlash?

So, John McCain has reportedly paid more than $5,500 to Tifanie White, the makeup artist who works on "American Idol," for similar cosmetic services. It is yet another incident of a politician -- regardless of ideological stripe -- coughing up a lot of money for the sake of good looks.

29. honestly man
he looks like he's tired and worn out. I think he underestimated the amount of pressure and stress that he would be going through and his body and mind just can't take it. I imagine it would be difficult for anyone to run a Presidential campaign at 72 years old. He reminds me a lot of my dad who is 2 years younger than McCain. He just doesn't have the same energy or brain power as he used to. McCain is tired and stressed out and he needs to first lose this race and then retire. If I were him that's what I would do.

31. He's got some facial nerve damage to the left side of his face.
That's what is causing his entire face to be somewhat slack on that side. It was most likely due to his melanoma and surgery for it. But it does seem to be worse some times more than others. Not sure exactly why that is, but it's a bit concerning.

So do you think this is just residual effects from the previous bouts with cancer, or do you think he is worsening?

38. That's not an official diagnosis...
It's just what I'm assuming is going on. His forehead is slack on that side, as is his eyelid and cheek. Those are all innervated by the facial nerve. The facial nerve also runs right through where he had his melanoma surgery. The surgery could've damaged the nerve directly, or the puffiness (fluid) he has in his cheek due to the removal of lymph nodes could be pressing on it. Personally, I think the droopiness is worse some times than others. And why that is, is a valid question, IMO. I don't think we've gotten the full medical history on John McCain.
