Their internals tell them McCain has lost a clean 8% across the board. If the election was held tomorrow he wouldn't get 200 electoral votes.

When the situation has gone totally wrong the right play is to do any weird thing to change the situation.

This McCain thrashing is merely the equivalent of an onside kick from a team down two scores in the final minute.

No masterstroke. Just desperation.

As the poker saying goes, the winner smiles and tells stories. The loser snarls, "Deal the cards!"
