USA Today: Obama to make a statement with in the hour

Barack Obama's campaign says he is inclined to go ahead with Friday's presidential debate, even though rival John McCain is calling for a delay.

McCain said Wednesday that he wants to stop all campaigning tomorrow and postpone the debate so they can work together on the financial crisis. But Obama campaign officials say the senator is inclined to move ahead.

McCain said the Bush administration's plan seemed headed for defeat and a bipartisan solution was urgently needed.

Obviously, Obama has not come to the microphone as soon as was expected. CNN says he's now due within the next 30 minutes or so.

USA TODAY Political Editor Catalina Camia passes along this statement from the University of Mississippi, which is hosting Friday night's presidential debate:

The University of Mississippi is going forward with the preparation for the debate. We are ready to host the debate, and we expect the debate to occur as planned.

At present, the University has received no notification of any change in the timing or venue of the debate.

We have been notified by the Commission on Presidential Debates that we are proceeding as scheduled. We will keep you posted as information becomes available.

1. Good for Barack`
I hope he sticks to his guns. There's not reason they can't work on this problem and have a debate for two hours. McLame is just not prepared and will do anything he can to delay the pain.

2. He better not back out of this debate
The other 97 Senators seem to have things under control.

Is there going to be a vote? I'm sure it can be scheduled so the Senators can be present. Saturday should work.

Everybody knows Obama's position.

McCain's position seems to change with the position of the sun. The man is flailing about.

We deserve our debate. Get to it.

Flip the topics...go ahead. I dare you
