Armchair analysis of the McCain campaign's cynical gambit.
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 04:14 PM by mhatrw
McCain was counting on the foreign policy debate to give him a bump.

But nobody can be suitably frightened of the bogeymen hiding in the caves when we are wondering why we have been locked out of changing our 401K packages while our retirement savings and the US dollar are tanking.

The only way this works for McCain is if he can push back the foreign policy debate until after the economic debate because under this week's circumstances all Obama has to say is that the cost of McCain's insatiable Iraq/Iran hawkishness exceeds the benefits.

McCain had nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying this gambit. Obama needs to call McCain's bluff. Rove's henchmen are used to cowing Democrats out of fear. Obama must not fall into that trap. Instead his reply should be that the American public deserves to hear as much about this crisis as possible from the two candidates. The United States has an open government and open public discussion and debate is critical to our government, especially in times of crisis.

1. It's obvious from the press conference Barack just held that he intends to discuss the economy
as it relates to foreign policy and national security on Friday.

McCrisis is f*cked.

2. Exactly. And McSame has no chance to score any points considering
the strongly economic focus of this news cycle and the trillions spent by BushCo with McCain's full support on dubious imperialistic adventuring.
