My UBBER Republican friend just called |
|
This guy works for the military and has been preaching to me about how we need McCain for the military forever. We have gotten into screaming matches over this for months. Well, not screaming but heated and loud. He's that typical stubborn not listening to facts person I have the hardest time dealing with. He watches Fox on the base (that is their preferred news station at all bases, apparently).
I had a rough day here in REDSVILLE and was in no mood when he called and left a message saying "I need to talk to you about politics." Oh, God. so I put it off for a while.
The first thing he says to me is, "are you still registering voters?"
I asked him in a sort of kidding way,"depends on who they are voting for." which isn't true; we register anyone.
he sighed and then let it spill. "I'm voting for Obama. These Republicans are crazy. It's four more years of utter failure! Palin was the last straw and now today he's trying to stop campaigning but there are only 30 days left and we need to know where they stand!"
I kept my mouth shut..."uh huh," is all I said.
he kept going, "They keep threatening other countries and swinging their dicks around and we need a leader who can go on a world apology tour and straighten this mess out!"
I added, "Obama is a strong leader, he won't back down if he can't work things out-- but first and foremost, he is a diplomat who can work with other countries. and that is what we need now."
him, "she can't even talk to the press! they need to keep her gagged! they know they made a huge error with her. They tried to get a wild card but she has so many controversies and hidden bullsh*t they know they didn't vet her."
finally he got it all out and asked me again to register him to vote.
Done.
I NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE THE DAY. EVER. Not him. I am shocked. Another one jumps the McTitanic.

Stay in touch with him and send him a good article on Obama once in a while. I'm praying that there are a lot more people out there like your friend. We have a few friends who seem to be wavering. I'm hoping we can talk them into staying home at the very least. They voted for Bush last time around, so a -1 in McCain's column would be a plus.

YES. lol Whenever I go to the Clinic, the televisions are generally tuned to FOX. It kind of depends though on what dept. you're in.
A LOT of military men, women and family members are going to vote for Obama. We're sick to hell of being jerked around by Bush and Co. We're truly, truly suffering right now. These fuckers have been using and abusing us for way too long now and even a lot of people who voted for Bush both times have had it.

At my base here in the UK we keep the office TVs on Sky News. The days of All Fox All The Time are long gone, thankfully. One of my 50+ white male ultra-Republican civilian subordinates told me yesterday he just donated "hundreds" to the Obama campaign. Probably something to do with his son having barely survived a roadside bomb in Iraq a few years ago. He's had enough. As you say, many in the military have. I don't hear much right-wing rhetoric anymore.

21. CitizenPatriot My Republican Co - worker on Monday |
|
looked me in the eye on Monday and said and I quote,
"At this point I am undecided, I do not like Sarah Palin and McCain is losing his mind"!
Just a note: We are buddies, like brother and sister we don't necessarily see eye to eye on all political points".
This is a big change my friends, this is happening all over the country.

Man, it feels good when stuff like this happens. this is BIG change. We are going through a shift.
What I should have told you all earlier but I was so excited I forgot, was that he said he was hearing this stuff from his superiors on the BASE!!! Unbelievable. I tell you, I am in REDSVILLE here and have been threatened with death for working on Obama's campaign by low life redneck asshats. Can you imagine how awesome this is????
A shift for humanity on some level...
I remain ever hopeful. Thank you for all the great comments:-)

26. Sounds a bit like my right wing coworker |
|
He isn't voting Obama, but the Palin pick pushed him out of the GOP camp for this election. He is a stereotypical republican (white, married, religious, older, lives in a small town). But when Palin was picked he realized that McCain was putting that incompetent gimmick one melanoma away from the white house and he can't stand that fact that she'd be in charge or what that says about how serious McCain takes the job of president. I have been trying to talk him into supporting Barr (again, he's not voting Obama), and I think that is who he will vote for this year.

33. A real man! And should he ever back down, remind him of how McCoward |
|
voted against veterans benefits every chance he could get. Also remind him that should we go to war with Iran and/or Russia, he would most likely be shipped out.
Remind him that McCoward is the most absent member of the Senate and hasn't shown up for work since April.
What would happen if we just said 'fuck it' and now show up for work? We'd be fired ten ways to Sunday!!
He's a real man. Please thank him and welcome him to the DU family! ;)
