Does he not show up at the debate and look weak & cannot handle a crises. It also gives Obama free air time.

Or does he show up and show that he is a flip-flopper and the stunt was purely political.

Its a lose-lose for McCain.

1. Yep--if he shows, he's got egg on his face. If he doesn't, he's a cut-and-run coward.

3. What on Earth could they possibly have been thinking? He looks like a QUITTER now. Bizarre, very
bizarre.

I can't come up with any rational hypotheses.

10. Three guesses: He didn't want to use up his foreign policy advantage
during the economic "crisis", when nobody would notice it. He wanted to distract the media from poll numbers or the Rick Davis lobbying lie. Or his internals suck so bad that it's not even as close as the media is making it appear, so there's no downside to making a crazy move.

6. I've been saying from the start that this candidacy was more about solidifying their
base than it was about anything else.

This move won't even help SP when she tries to run in 2012/2016.

5. No no no no. In RW world, it is a lose/lose for Obama.
He's unpatriotic.
Obama first.
He's a Muslim.

7. It's not just about McCain looking weak. He IS weak.
And the fresh coat of paint he tried to apply is already peeling. The best they can do now is duck and cover. They are outclassed, outspent, and underqualified. The best he can do is try to make this a circus.

11. I kind of wish Obama had brought up the Fannie Mae lobbyist thing
at the press conference. It would have been a complete smack down.

12. The corporate media will give McCain credit for going back as the vast majority,
are sympathetic to him anyway, they perceive him to be the most loving of corporate supremacy and they will turn on Obama for not going back.

McCain will play the part of the rooster taking credit for the sunrise and some Senators will proclaim the deal was not possible without his "leadership".

13. They should let the VEEPS debate first.
Then let Obama go back to DC and save the country. McCain will not be able to say he sacrificed his campaign for the good of the country.
