Mercury Retrograde and the Election
As a Pagan, I follow these things and today was the first day that Mercury went retrograde....it happens three times a year, and this is the last time it will happen in 2008. Mercury is the ruler of communication, transportation, commerce and education, as well as the technological; when it goes retrograde it throws all these things out of whack. Our words get misunderstood, small arguments become big fights, cars, buses, planes, trains break down, we lose money and we don't "get" things...moreover, computers crash, hard drives fail, the internet never seems to load fast enough.

I was just going to make this point and leave it at that, but then I got home and heard McCain's stupid and idiotic grumblings and see that it's already started. This one ends on October 15th and is fully direct on October 31st. Read it for yourself at the link below. In any case, just some heads up to be clear, concise and simple with your plans and double-check everything.

If you disagree with my beliefs and convictions that's fine, but please don't flame me, or disparage the many pagans who are on this board.

Being double Gemini (sun & moon), these retro periods really kick my butt. I started feeling it yesterday.

Thanks for the heads-up to those who don't normally follow the planets.

12. Where there's smoke
there's uaually a fire I've always heard. Astrology has been around for thousands of years... must be because there is something to it, so many times it is right on. I like to keep an open mind and don't discredit anything that I don't fully understand. There are studies that have shown that domestic violence is higher during a full moon as tempers flare. If the moon can control the tide, then I'd assume it certainly can influence our mood. Thank you for your post and the link, good read.

31. Such an easy argument to debunk - sometimes the smoke is from dry ice.
Sometimes it's actually fog.

"must be because there is something to it, so many times it is right on." No, that's called confirmation bias. Correlation is not causation.

the ones who try to give you grief because you're looking at the whole picture..not just the one on Earth.

There's a great political website on the net called "starlightnews".. Nancy Waterman use to be on DU but now she has her own site.

She was talking about this very thing today. Liberalboy.

Thanks for putting some different perspective on it. It's going to be a wild confusing ride and thankfully Merc should be goin way direct before Nov 4th. As you might know Mercury was RX for the 2000 US election and we know all the delays that caused.

Just because my faith is different from yours (if you even have one)?

There have been research studies showing that there is an increase in the average mean of societal problems when there is a full moon. The word lunatic comes from this phenomenon.

45. I have no interest in "proving" anything. Your response is very typical of philosophy 101 undergrad
or undergrad science majors (usually bio, not normally physicists as they tend to have more nuanced thinking) who demand "proof" and "evidence" for all sorts of metaphysical ideas without realizing these terms ("proof"/"evidence") are very circumscribed (in the sense that you are emplying the term proof) applying only in specific, controlled material conditions. I have spent many years in academia and the shouting out of "proof!" is just boring -- go do your own statistical analysis of the past one hundred years re: mercury retrograde if you want to argue with the original post.

"Proof" in biology is very different from "proof" in higher mathematics, statistics, or physics or for that matter any of the humanities. These are not terms that can be indiscrimately applied to either metaphysical claims, which is what the original post concerns (unless the claimant demanding "proof" is then ceding that there is a metaphysical realm that can then be tested in some tangible, already-known way) or to philosophical claims.

46. Merry meet, Liberalboy!
Thanks for posting this. Merc ret on average is dicey, and this one seems to be turning out to be particularly hairy. Hold on to your seats, it's going to be a bumpy ride!

One interesting thing to note--as someone said in the Astrology forum, having Merc ret now could actually help with the bailout issue, as it may stall any negotiations--hopefully until cooler heads prevail.
