McCain camp to propose postponing VP debate
Posted: 07:08 PM ET

From CNN Correspondent Dana Bash
Biden and Palin are set to debate October 2.
Biden and Palin are set to debate October 2.

(CNN) — McCain supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham tells CNN the McCain campaign is proposing to the Presidential Debate Commission and the Obama camp that if there's no bailout deal by Friday, the first presidential debate should take the place of the VP debate, currently scheduled for next Thursday, October 2 in St. Louis.

In this scenario, the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin would be rescheduled for a date yet to be determined, and take place in Oxford, Mississippi, currently slated to be the site of the first presidential faceoff this Friday.

Graham says the McCain camp is well aware of the position of the Obama campaign and the debate commission that the debate should go on as planned — but both he and another senior McCain adviser insist the Republican nominee will not go to the debate Friday if there's no deal on the bailout.

8. So that's the real issue here not the economy.
It's a fake excuse to get Palin out of the debates. Guess the debate prep isn't going too well. It sure isn't like a beauty pageant, is it Miss Piggy?

9. He can't call the shots -- isn't it the Presidential Debate Commission who has
the final say?

They've already bent over accommodating the McCain campaign's demands (especially for the VP debate).

I want to hurt that man.

11. Looks like McCain's too tired and confused to debate & Palin's too unprepared.
So they're doing everything they can to postpone and/or cancel the events.

Pathetic.

17. wow.
Is she really that incapable of grasping foreign policy issues? My God, I'm sure most of us would have our policy points down pat enough to handle even that hyper-controlled debate. Guess that just shows you how really unintelligent she is. She can't even fake it. They must be terrified.
