Cancelling Makes Sense For McCain |
|
Not showing up for the debate will be damaging enough but actually showing up and looking like the tired, old, out of touch and confused person he really is could be worse. It could be much, much worse.
He could suffer prolonged episodes of "deer in the headlights" looks as he tries to remember what the question was.
Every one of his answers will contain a reference to the word POW.
Every one of his answers could be a talking point totally unrelated to the question.
He could loose his temper and go off on Obama, the moderator or even the audience.
He could get so stressed out that Madam Moose will move to the top of the ticket much sooner than planned.
Staying away is the safest course for the old fool! As the old saying goes; "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Had he done the debate, then it would be handed off to Fox, CNN, etc. to spin and make his true believers feel that he was presidential - we would have gagged here, of course, but we're not his target audience.
Now, what he's done is effectively confirmed even to the tame media that he's a coward and/or a fool. Bush will do his song and dance tonight, will try to talk Obama into postponing tomorrow as well ("given the seriousness of the situation"), and Obama will tell him, politely, where he can shove it. McCain's numbers will TANK after this - and what's worse for him, they'll tank not because of Palin's problems (which can be ameliorated by simply jettisoning her from the ticket) but due to his own actions.
This was easily one of the dumbest stunts McCain could have done.

3. I remember the first debate in 2000 |
|
Bush looked like a special ed kid (no offense to them) compared to Gore. Not that he doesn't anyway. And even though Gore (and Kerry) debated circles around the chimp, I could tell even back then that the media, for some reason, was insanely biased in favor of Bush.
