Some thoughts about which way this will turn:

McCain may drop out. I am not saying this will happen, but the Republicans are losing, they are desperate, and a 'ill' McCain with a Romney step in at the last, might be a Hail Mary Pass. Romney could drop Palin, and put in a 'moderate'. I guess my point, I wouldn't put ANYTHING over on the Republicans.

Or, they keep McCain. They keep with their original plan of blatant cheating.

Or, if you have been reading DU, and the Greatest pages current article about how a illegal US Army Unit is now deployed \on our countries soil, specifically trained in riot control, they might just not hold an election. Bush has been putting in unilateral powers in place for years, powers such as declaring martial law for ANY reason, and not even Congress can overrule this decision. Given Bush's history and the extreme corruption, it would not be illogical to think that perhaps, they just don't hold the election for ....insert reason.

Frankly, I am frightened. I will not let fear rule me, and I will drive down to Washington to PEACEFULLY protest, if need be. We would need to show up en masse to make our point and a difference, if a weird scenario happens. I am ready to go. Hopefully, I won't need to...

I don't think the Republicans are just going to walk away quietly and give their power back. Nothing in their history demonstrates that is how they work. In fact, everything demonstrates that is the exact oppossite of how they work. I don't see the blatant need to give the President all these absurd powers, if just to have a dem come overrule them next term.

Frankly, I don't think Americans have taken the warning signs seriously enough. And, I think we might be in for the clash of our time.

1. The only way McCain can drop out now is to drop dead
Sorry, it's too late for either candidate on the ticket to drop out. Past deadlines in some states so the party would be ineligible for many many electoral votes.

McCain/Palin is what the Republicans are stuck with. They cannot change. IF McCain were to die of brain cancer or a heart attack, it would still read McCain/Palin on the ballots and Palin would become president should McCain win.

3. Debbie - you are of a like mindset
I've been saying this for over a year.
I have always said "IF" there is an election, and people look at me like I am crazy.
Yeah, right.

I hope I am proven wrong, because I can't fathom what may happen if I am proven right.

5. I don't know about martial law
I think it would be impossible for Bush or Cheney to rule over the American people as dictators, even considering that many American behave like sheep. It's unthinkable to me.

Nonetheless, I just can't shake a bad feeling I've had for a while that something wicked this way comes. I don't know what it is, probably just the effect of the last 7+ years. I just have a strange feeling (and I'm not one to believe in premonitions or ESP and that kind of thing) that we haven't seen the last trick out of the GOP bag of dirty tricks.

6. What could the American people do to stop Bush from taking over
as the dictator? They've got control of everything. Just for openers, they could stop the distribution of fuel and electricity and we would all be "dead in the water". We are not a self-sufficient type society.

The only hope would be that some or all of the military would revolt. They would have enough power to stop him.
