Am I Missing Something? Bush/McCain Want Obama In DC To Lobby House Republicans? |
|
The latest I heard is that the main opposition to a deal is coming from Republicans in the House. You know, the free market anarchy crowd that hates all regulation and intervention. I think that McCain in DC to rally these nuts is stretch, since McCain is in the Senate and he is not a GOP whip, but Obama, the Democratic candidate? Is Barack Obama supposed to rally Republican members of the House to support the bailout?
Someone explain this to me?

1. They want to show that the plan has a wide support |
|
Pelosi said that they are almost done with the plan and this is why McCain decided to come, to take credit for it.
So the White House - I thought that Bush was quite conciliatory - want to have every one around the table to show a bi-partisan support.

2. Bush has called for McCain and Obama to come to the White House .... |
|
... because McCain's foolish unilateral suspension of his campaign and skipping the debate pretty much spelled the end of his election chances -- had Bush not called Obama back, too. It provides cover for McCain, so he'll look less foolish and erratic.

3. If McCain Can't Lead His Own Party, How Can He Lead The Nation? |
|
I understand the main hold up still are House Republicans. My take is that McCain just wants Obama there, so it is not so obvious that McCain can't control his own party.
