Palin's performance on the CBS interview is acceptable to the GOP base
Don't mean to be a wet blanket but based on compliments from the republican base regarding Palin her performance on today's interview was acceptable. They say she's "plain spoken", "just like me", "A mom", etc. Palin would have to drool on national TV before the GOP base would turn against her.

5. Just like me?
I think I am pretty intelligent and informed but I sure as hell wouldn't want me to be one step from the Presidency of the United States of America. Who gives a damn if she is 'like me' she's not running for best friend she is running for Vice-President.

32. Actually, that would make them love her more, for being a "guy's kind of chick"
and definitely a "sit back and have a beer with" regular folksy type that the rednecks go for.

In fact, that might be the one thing that could actually clinch the campaign for McCain/Palin.

11. I tried to watch it through the eyes of somebody who liked her
Because I have to admit, I'm less critical of people I like than of people I don't. I'm only human. And I wanted to see whether I could imagine how a Republican would interpret that interview and whether it might actually decrease her ratings.

And to be honest--but this is just MHO--I felt that she didn't say anything (except at the end... thank you thank you thank you, editing team at CBS! I'm sure she'll "get back to" Katie right away!) that was actually laughable. She didn't do a great job of answering the questions, but there was no egregiously horrific "In what respect, Cherlie?" moment that I saw.

She certainly wasn't impressive, and I don't think she would sway anybody towards her, but I didn't think it was nearly as bad as the Gibson interview.

a better candidate than Palin. That's the sad part.

Unfortunately, that was obvious, and our problems are hella serious.

She reminds folks of a Temp. Like she's just here for now....which is probably a good thought.

20. I had a completely opposite take...I was so embarrassed for her I couldn't watch.
I always have to walk away from the TV out of sympathy when I see things like that.

In terms of demeanor, I think the Charlie Gibson interview was better than this one. She was trying that BS thing that a lot of guys do when they want to impress you.

Palin is an average woman who fell into her position as Governor of Alaska using her extraordinarily manipulative personality.

..shiver up my leg. This is GOOD news.

If the GOP BASE is calling it "acceptable", that means it royally sucked shit. If it was ACTUALLY acceptable, they'd be shouting from the rooftops how she "hit it out of the park".

Gotta allow for partisan hack hyperbole.

Acceptable... after that vote of... mindless devotion... from the party that previously had Quayle as a VP...

Hells... the GOP base might as well be moaning about their desire for "brains..."

The question should be if there are any non-mouth-breathers who aren't offended at the mere thought of Palin as VP.

34. I don't understand why
*Just like me* = good candidate for President and/or Vice President.

When they say those things, are they implying that they themselves are competent enough to be President or Vice President?

Do they think its an easy job?

Should we ask them why they aren't running?

36. Palin's favorability polls are plunging. There is a certain segment of voters that
will continue to support her, just as they continue to support Bush. However, it appears that many people are seeing her for what she is. Google "palin favorability ratings" and see what comes up.
