Again, let's not lose sight of something.... |
|
We are all political junkies.
We follow every bit of campaign news and minutiae that is out there. When McCain picks Palin we know every aspect of what led up to that moment, why he did it, the utter stupidity and transparency of it all.
Same thing with the whole campaign suspension and debate time out. We all knew about the polls leading up...we all knew about every one of his campaign gaffes regarding the economy and how unqualified he would be to discuss the issue as even one small part of the debate topics.
But most people are not that involved in or know about that stuff, and especially so all the "independents" do not and are not.
So yeah, keep in mind that while we see these things as the acts of poll driven desparation they are, most people do not.
Most people who are not political junkies see "McCain picks a woman as his vice presidential running mate!" and think "Wow, that's bold an mavericky."
Most people who are not political junkies see "McCain suspends campaign to deal with economic crisis" and think "Wow, that's bold and mavericky."
Yeah, with a little work and a little luck we can talk people down but it is a lot of work and it doesn't always work and after a certain point I think people start thinking of us trying to always explain the underhanded motives in all this as conspiracy theorizing.
McCain and his handlers know this. They know how much work it is to counter lies and spin. And they know that even if it takes the media a week or two to catch up to the reality after recovering from the spin, that it's a week or two that they won the spin or at the very least that the spotlights weren't on them about other things (poll #'s, specific policy questions, etc.). They are running out the clock essentially and while I'd loooove nothing more than to think that the public won't fall for it, I know better.

1. Except this move is being panned and ridiculed as a stunt, |
|
and a desperate move on the local news teevee. I haven't heard anyone call this a good move, like they fell all over themselves to do with palin.
And, I think that even those who don't pay close attention, are getting tired of Erratic Mccain. Stakes are too high for a hot-headed reactionary. He just looks more like chimpy.

2. I hope you're right.... |
|
...I'm a skeptic when it comes to over/understimating how people will react or respond to things.

3. I don't think so this time |
|
Not after what Chimpy, McMonster and the Republican's have done to the country. Poll numbers are reflecting that.
