Please... the idea of having Palin "stand-in" for McCain at the debate is a BAD ONE FOR US
Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 09:12 AM by scheming daemons
80 million people get to see Sarah Palin on the SAME STAGE as a Presidential candidate?

Are you people nuts? (those that think this is a good idea)

No matter HOW she does, it is an EXTREME win for McCain:

1. He looks like the statesman, working on Nation's problems.

2. She gets elevated to Obama's level... which is what the GOP wants. They want this race to be Obama-vs-Palin, not Obama-vs-McCain.

3. Even if Obama cleaned her clock, she would get a "pass" from the media, since this was a last-second thing and she wasn't expected to do well - while Obama planned for several days. Her expectations would be VERY low.

4. Obama's stature gets lowered to that of a VP candidate.

My God... are you people absolutely NUTS???? (again... only those of you that think this would be a good thing).

Thank God there are many MUCH smarter people running the campaign.

1. It's a dumb idea, neither side would go for it.

2. Oh... the McCain side most definitely WOULD go for it...

They want to lower Obama's stature.

They want to raise Palin's.

7. I don't think so, their whole goal is to get Palin out of the debates.
She is not ready, and they bargained for her to get the easier style. This debate is closer to a true debate, she couldn't handle it. Especially not on Foreign Policy.

9. Their whole goal is to make it Obama-v-Palin instead of Obama-v-McCain

They're desperate at this point.

If there's to be a debate friday, they want it to be our #1 versus their #2.

19. Right.
There is zero chance of it being seriously suggested, and far less chance of it happening.

22. No, I thought people were saying that Palin should debate Biden
this Friday, not Obama. Personally I like this idea.

26. Letterman and Stewart were talking about it from the perspective...
of "hey, that's the VP is for, let her step in," knowing good and well Palin can't "step in." Their discussion about it was a diss (IMO).

Some here are talking about switching the dates and having the VP debate first, as a purely scheduling issue to get the show on the road if the Obama-McCain debate is up in the air.

I also think it's a good idea. Either way, let's see Obama-McCain or Biden-Palin in a debate tomorrow night. :)

24. David Letterman said it last night.
He said it in the context of if there were some valid reason McCain couldn't show then his VP should stand in rather than cancel the debate. It was a criticism not a suggestion.

8. I think most people suggested something different
Along the lines of a Biden / Palin debate.

I agree that Obama / Palin would be a silly idea. But it makes for great late-night comedy.

16. She'd get a pass... for being "thrust" into it at the last second... and Obama would be diminished..
..no matter how he did.

28. Obama would laugh in he face. Presidents don't debate seconds.
He'd say "why are you here?"

Then that would be that.
