Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 11:01 AM by Teaser
Yes, all comedy ceased during the Great Depression. There were absolutely no two or three man comedy teams to come out of that era.

Wasn't that the time of the great "Borshe Belt" comedians and the time of great comedy on radio?

McCain is just nutso.

Dave handled the interview pretty "professionally" as far as I'm concerned.

Plus, you can't lie to Dave, have Dave call you on that lie and then say, "comedy bad for the economy."

I thought at first that your post was a wonderful burn on McCain.

But it's actually 100% pertinent. He shouldn't be allowed to get away with his "no comedy during a financial crisis" BS under any circumstances, but when there are pictures of him literally eating cake during Katrina, his excuse goes from hilarious to the worst kind of insult to the victims of Katrina.

I retract my ROFLs.

He can't even be honest in a private conversation with Letterman. Had
McCain been honest with Letterman, I would guess that Letterman would have been quite a bit more lenient on him. McCain deserved Letterman's lambasting and it's obvious that he thinks it's hurting him, because he chose to respond to it.

but most of those were dramas, not musicals.

;-)

One of the most famous was "I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang", which did much to help reform the judicial and prison system of the time.

That's the great thing about this. It's one big vicious circle. Dave will keep responding and stirring the pot, because it's such a ratings grabber, and McCain will keep responding because he's such a thin-skinned elitist with a rage problem, causing Dave to respond again..............................

I also think it's highly inappropriate to put sweaters on dogs.

about what life was like during the depression, i read once that movies were the one thing people would save and go out to, they needed relief from the stress. and alot of the movies were comedies to relax folks.

mccain is so out of touch with regular people it is not funny. i read the other day his dad gave him a brand new corvette when he graduated from that naval class almost last. this is how he was raised.

Remember Giuliani on SNL:
Lorne Michaels: On behalf of everyone here, I just want to thank you all for being here tonight, especially you, sir.

Mayor Rudolph Guiliani: Thank you, Lorne. Thank you very much. Having our city's institutions up and running sends a message that New York City is open for business. "Saturday Night Live" is one of our great New York City institutions, and that's why it's important for you to do your show tonight.

Lorne Michaels: Can we be funny?

Mayor Rudolph Guiliani: Why start now? "Live, from New York! It's Saturday Night!"

104. Dave Letterman is quite capable of conducting serious interviews
appropriate for the subject and guest. And John McCain knows this. He wasn't going on the show to do comedy. He was going on the show to be interviewed.

He was afraid of the questions that Letterman might asks and his campaign even more afraid of how he would answer them. Letterman was not going to pull any punches.

It's not like Letterman is the Three Stooges... it's not like McCain would have been on there throwing pies and yukkin' it up:eyes: In fact Letterman would have given him the time and space to speak to the gravity of the situation if that's what he wanted to do. Seriously doing a show like Letterman is probably one of the best things he could have done, if his aim was to set folks mind at ease and share his thoughts and philosophies on the current dilemma. I am so glad no one is giving him a pass on this...

or at least I assume no one's giving him a a pass. They aren't, are they?

McCain on Letterman, a month after 9/11, in the midst of the anthrax crisis, joking about it: "Bring out your dead!" and joking about Osama Bin-Laden as well.
