Obama to host town hall meeting if McSuspend doesn't show.
Barack Obama is committed to hosting a public, televised event Friday night in Mississippi even if John McCain does not show up, a source close to the Obama campaign tells the Huffington Post.

9. When Hillary threatened to take the primaries to the convention, Obama did NOT back down
and he's not backing down with McCain either.

17. She wanted to let the roll call make the final decision
But she didn't. I really think it was her just seeing if Barack would back down so she could get the nomination. He didn't flinch.

25. Look this isn't a thread to start a bitter fight
for a few weeks around the start of Pennsylvania Hillary was chiming that she was in it until the convention but ultimately she backed down when she knew that she wasn't getting the votes needed.

I'm not trying to bust Clinton's chops here, I absolutely adore the gal and even moreso after her amazing convention speech. I'm just saying that this situation could have been the first time that Obama might have backed away and he didn't. Obama was in the lead but the numbers were close AND superdelegates can be swayed. I lesser person might have backed down - Obama was not one of them.

29. I just have to bite my tongue here every day
I am still furious about the primaries, the complete UNFAIRNESS of the caucus system (which I had to participate in, in Washington state) and some of the accusations made against the Clintons on the campaign trail, the main lie being that they were racist. It's a very difficult election season (though luckily McCain and Palin make it a billions times easier). But seeing people here (don't even get me started on Chris Rock's assholeishness) ream on the Clintons over and over and over is maddening. The Clintons WANT Obama to win, as we all do. They are raising money for him. Bill Clinton has always talked in a measured, considered way over every issue, every nuance. That's his WAY. He's a very bright guy. He doesn't spit out sound bites. He sees all sides. He always has. It's his glory and it's his downfall, too.

30. We're on the same team and I love the Clintons
I've been hiding all those thread bashing them again.

What people here don't understand is that his foundation is non-partisan and right now he's out there promoting it. So it's bullshit we're looking at his apples and calling them oranges, so to speak.

And to be honest, our whole electorial system SUCKS. We need to have run off elections to allow 3rd parties to be more competitive. But as long as we have this system we have to work it for what it is

:grouphug:

As for the Clinton / McCain comparison - the biggest difference between these 2 is the fact that Hillary was showing her strengh - she wanted to take this election to the primary because she was not afraid to fight this battle. I hold nothing but pure respect for what she did. But McCain is showing that he is a coward, ducking from a primary and using the economy as an excuse. Hillary Clinton always has been and always will be a hero to me but McCain is a coward and someone surely I do not want representing me as my president.

32. OK, then my apologies to you
luckily, because I have always liked you and enjoyed your posts. I would have liked to have gone to Denver and met you, but I was too upset to go to the convention (and I had parties I could have gone to and a place to stay, and everything. But my heart just wasn't in it).

We really must disband the caucuses. They are terrible.

18. smart move -- avoids equal opportunities issue
If Obama participated in what was essentially a one-man debate, he could open the door for McCain to make an equal opportunities claim for free broadcast time (which he could use any way he wanted) because the FCC has said that a debate that does not have more than one candidate present isn't exempt from the rules. However, if conducted according to certain rules, a one-man "town hall" style event is exempt, which means McCain doesn't get to claim a comparable amount of free time.

figure out a way to be there...but dimwit debating Biden...I'm not sure about that one. I think some money is changing hands to ensure she's got the questions in advance or something. There is no way she can debate Biden.
