Man, did McCain cost himself with his stunt VP pick (economy related)
I was just thinking, we wondered when the obvious political nature of McCain choosing Palin would come back to bite him, and, gaffes on TV aside, I think this week did it. If McCain had followed through and chose a VP with economic experience, even if he or she was a total goofball and bad at it, McCain would be talking this week about how he has the man or woman in place to understand and fix the problem. Now, we all know that would be bullshit, but the press would talk up the VP's business credentials, and McCain would be making a stronger argument that he could help with the economic mess.

Instead, he picked Palin and was forced to go for a ridiculous stunt yesterday to try and salvage his campaign. This is why true gambling rarely works, John.

1. Yep
If John wasn't so "mavricky" he would have done what everyone was telling him to do and picked Romney, who right or wrong would have been perceived as the exact running mate McCain needed right now.

Its unfathomable to me anyone could want this clown in the White House, whatever your politics.

2. I'm sure he's kicking himself in the hot pants
Thought about this earlier myself and what an advantage more economically experienced VP picks could have provided his candidacy. Since judgment is what we elect people to execute, I hope this missed opportunity occurs to more voters.

3. I think Palin is doing just what they expected her to do. She's excited the base, and even though
she will not help the ticket win, the Repub ticket wasn't going to win anyway. Palin's excitement of the base will help the Repubs stave off massive losses in state legislatures (which would have been the inevitable result of a McCain-Lieberman ticket), which will allow the Repubs to gerrymander congressional districts in the South.
