Another reason why McCain blew it big time: Now part of the debate will be on the bailout/economy
McCain upped the anti with his drama queen posturing by now guranteeing that a debate that was supposed to focus on his preceived "strong suit," defense and foreign policy, will now have a big part of it focus on the economy and the bailout plan. The threw the Hail Mary pass, but what he didn't realize was that he was using a boomerang.

1. He created a huge mess for himself!
If he attends the debate, he will now have to deal with economic issues and there's a good chance the Keating Five will come up.

If he doesn't attend the debate, Obama gets all the time to himself while a national, prime-time audiences watches.

2. The third debate's theme is scheduled already to be about the economy
Originally the first debate was supposed to be about the economy but the Obama people negiotiated to switch the subjects from the thrid debate to the first debate. the thinking was that it is perceived that obama's strength is the economy but that he is weak on foreign policy. they decided to start with foreign policy for the first debate, the one with the most viewers, to clear up this misperception and "close" with his strength. I read this in the NYT recently.
