Reid would have to schedule that vote, correct? So there's no way that vote would go down while Obama is elsewhere or is my tin foil screwed on too tight? :tinfoilhat:

1. Not very
We have the majority in the House so we set the schedule. Its much more likely the vote would be convenient for Obama to make.

6. But they are supposed to be recessing on Friday. The pressure to vote on the deal with be enormous.
Beyond the inflammatory rhetoric about saving the world and all the rest of the shyte currently being thrown in an attempt to push this thing through precipitously.

4. Why are we assuming that this will be a popular decision with the
public?

7. Unfortunately for us, I don't think they care if it's popular with us or not.
They want their money. Now.

10. I just read in another thread that 78% of the public supports the bail out.
I'm thankful for that.

16. Critical distinction: 78% support *a* bailout
NOT necessarily this one, with no oversight of Paulson, no protection for homeowners, no assurance that We The people are getting any assets with actual value, etc., etc.

5. No one in a bargaining position is seeing John McCain as the white knight.
He's pretty much viewed as an interloper...so, I doubt there will be any effort to make him look good.

8. I think that Chimpies performance makes most of this concern unnecessary.
I had a discussion with my little 82 year old friend today. Three months ago she would not have given Obama a chance. Today she was shaking her head. As I handed her a 'Republicans for Obama' button I said, 'You may not be quite ready for this but here you go.' She picked it up, smiled and took it with her. Even those who were worried about Obama's skin color are smart enough to realize that brains is what it will take to save us now. peace, Kim

9. What I hate even more is even feeling suspicious of our DLC leadership (cough)
and their hidden agenda. I would hope they are on Obama's side but there's that niggling doubt as to their true allegiances. The money players want that money now - Reid wouldn't cave would he?

I hate even thinking this way.

11. It has to be voted and debated in Congress & the Senate

Not going to happen.

And, Reid wouldn't schedule it during the debate.

Lots to worry about - not this...

12. No way Reid or Pelosi would call for a vote when
Obama is doing a debate. That's just absurd.

13. They seem to be following Gingrich's suggestion. Here is link & clip:
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09/gingrich-mccain.html

If McCain were to come out against the bailout plan, Gingrich said that Republicans would rally to his side and it would become possible for the McCain-Palin ticket to style itself as "taking on the Bush-Obama establishment."

"Either McCain is going to go along" with Obama in supporting the plan, said Gingrich, "in which case the establishment will have the fix in . . . or you are going to see McCain decide, much in the way that he did in picking Palin, that, in fact, he is a genuine maverick, that he genuinely defends the taxpayers, and that this is a terrible bill."

"If the latter happens," Gingrich continued, "I think you will see the emergence overnight of a 'McCain Reform Wing of the Republican Party' and you'll see House and Senate members siding with McCain by overwhelming margins and then you'll be in a very different political environment. You'll have 'Bush-Obama ads' on the one side and 'taking on the Bush-Obama establishment' on the other side, and that will be, frankly, one of the more amazing elections."

Left unsaid by the former Speaker is the possibility that the bailout plan would simply die if McCain were to come out against it, which in turn, could deprive the McCain-Palin ticket of the opportunity to run against the "Bush-Obama establishment."
