WOW-Anyone else live in the NY area just see the anti-McCain ad about his cancer? |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 05:42 PM by jenmito
It was by a 527 called Brave New Pac" (I'm pretty sure) and had doctors talking about McCain's age and history of McCain's Melanoma and how serious it could be to his chances of survival! Lots of close-up pics of his facial scars! It ended by asking why he won't release his medical records. VERY effective in making you think about him not making it and therefore PALIN becoming President! It's factual, sure! I agree with everything in it...but it's going to turn people off. I think it should be said in a gentler way. It WILL make us seem mean-spirited.

22. It IS a real concern. But I disagree about it costing us anyone. |
|
I just read another thread about this. Someone put it very well. They said we don't want him to get 'sympathy' votes. That's my worry too.
Maybe I'm wrong!! I sure hope so. Here we are, on a great bounce in the ratings. I'd hate to see anything diminish it.
I just saw the ad again...it's not as jarring as the first time I saw it. Hopefully the average on-the-fence viewer won't be so turned off they vote for McSame.
BUT I still say it could've been done smarter. And I've never disliked Brave New Films' work before.

I think even if people DO feel sympathy towards him it won't make them vote for him. It will make them think about the (sad) possibility he could die and Palin would become President.

Yesterday, I gave a guy a high sign who was stopped next to me at a light for his Obama sticker...he rolled down his window and we chatted for a second. I had just come from court and the guy looked like a lawyer. I asked and he said he was a banker.
Knock me over with a feather...a banker with an Obama sticker! In West LA/Santa Monica area! :applause:

Many of us think he's not looking well-how will we live with ourselves if we have not tried to get him to release his records? I signed the letter-if I had not been proactive and called for his medical records to be released, I would have an even worse time dealing with the situation should McCain and Palin win and then Palin becomes President.

Bill Frist did that. Plus the fact I spent enough years in the medical field to know this is not what responsible physicians do.
The question is valid...I totally agree. They should all be released. But this ad was just terrible, IMO. Not very good.
As I said...they should do one about his votes in regards to veterans and the military. That will do far more damage, IMO, considering he is a veteran. He's voted against the VA, against vets and against their families repeatedly. He's voted against body armor and didn't show up for the vote on the new GI Bill. That's the ad I want to see.

|
to an individual of whom he doesn't have a clue about. He does not know the details of his medical history. Everyone knows he had melanoma four times, but it's the details of that we don't know. No responsible physician makes these kinds of assumptions about a patient he or she never examined. This is why that ad will not have traction and will be dismissed as sleazy. It's no better than what Frist did.

|
The reference to melanoma makes you wonder, "What else does he have going on?" If the Repugs jump all over it as being a personal attack, great! It'll just keep drawing attention to the fact that he's been hiding the true condition of his health by not releasing his medical records. It also means the media will play the ad over and over as part of their reporting -- it'll be payback for the "Paris Hilton + Britney Spears = Obama" ad, which got lots of free airplay.

the concerns about his health, and they are certainly legitimate. But I don't think this was done tastefully, if it's even possible to do this in a fashion that isn't offensive. I'm sure the McAnus campaign will spin it that way, but I hope it WILL focus attention on his medical records and make him release them. He should. It's a pretty expected thing, no?

85. Several times here in Florida. Caught a couple minutes on O'Reilly |
|
last night (during KO commercial... I promise). He was talking to some legal "expert" who said nothing can be done. He wanted to sue. Anyway, one of them mentioned that only NBC agreed to air it.

91. I saw the same thing... |

I was channel-surfing for a couple minutes at 5 in the morning (I woke up for a few minutes) and of course, O'Reilly had to point out that only NBC played it. I think he meant MSNBC. :eyes:
