Democracy For America and Brave New PAC are airing an ad which questions McCain's health, talking about his age and his melanomas. No kid gloves--this is an all out long-knives ad.

4. As it should be, Americans should not have to endure a sick president
...who might not even be able to take office in times like we have now.

12. Yeah, because they were so turned off by the Swift-boaters, they voted Bush out of office.

14. Those were Republicans who went for that crap.
The independents voted Bush because he had a consistent message and they thought Kerry was too flaky (admittedly the swift boat stuff didn't help, but I don't think it hurt as much as some of us think).

15. So you really think that no independent voters are affected by negative ads?
What color is the sky there?

16. It's been cloudy all day...
To answer your question; I think there were plenty of independents that fell for it and voted Bush because the thought Kerry was a liar, etc. There were more that voted Bush because they saw believed he was better equipped to deal with foreign policy issues. I also think quite a few people voted with a 'you broke it, you fix it' mentality.
