On Daily Kos I keep reading the expression "Orange to Blue" What does it mean? |
|
Sorry if that is a clueless question but I would appreciate someone explaining it to me. Why "Orange"?

4. CNN uses Orange for battleground states |
|
Either it is a direct reference to CNN alone, or a reference to a tendency to use orange for battleground states.

8. I know some electoral maps show toss up states as "orange" but I don't know why. |
|
If a state is neither red or blue yet, wouldn't it logically be purple?

10. Its the Kos version of the old Blue Majority list |
|
Various liberal blogs: MyDD, Swing State project, Open Left, and DailyKos, used to maintain a common ActBlue fundraising push called Blue Majority. Each of these blogs has slightly different goals, and although they were successful they found they were more effective running separate fundraising operations instead of the consensus based Blue Majority. The blogs ceased participating in the Blue Majority program, and DailyKos transitioned the Blue Majority list into what they named the Orange to Blue list. The difference between the Blue Majority list and the Orange to Blue list is that Blue Majority just sought to elect Democrats, regardless of how progressive they were while the Orange to Blue list seeks to not only swing districts from Republicans to Democrats but also replace conservative Democrats with more progressive ones. The significance of the word "Orange" is just that it is the official color of DailyKos.
You can read about it http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/6/11/1601/04564|here>

12. "Red to Blue" means getting a place represented by a Republican... |

...to vote in a Democrat. "Orange to Blue" is a twist on that expression, based on the color orange being used at the "Daily Kos" website. It refers to the list of candidates Kos wants people to donate to: http://www.actblue.com/page/orangetoblue?refcode=DKosSidebar
