Guess what-McCain voted FOR that "bear paternity" bill he always ridicules!
Article from August:

"Senator John McCain has frequently cited an earmark to a bill proving funds for a study of grizzly bears in Montana as an example of the worst pork-and-barrel spending in Washington. The study was included in an ad for McCain entitled "Outrageous" during the primaries. However, according to FactCheck.org, Senator McCain voted for the earmark he now derides."

5. If that's true then Obama blew a big opportunity
to highlight McCain's hypocrisy. If McCain's used this line before, then Obama's team should have made sure Obama had a powerful response prepared.

18. Except nobody in the media (or the Obama campaign) talk about this.
They should-just like McCain and then the media would if it was reversed.

25. From Factcheck
"He never specifically went after the "bridge to nowhere," and he was absent for key votes on its funding".
"While he tried to cut money for several other projects in the same bill, he never proposed cutting the bear study and voted for the final bill containing it".

10. One of his fellow republicans probably informed him WHY the study was needed

From a Republican point of view, it's all about "drill, baby, drill."

WASHINGTON — The majestic grizzly bear, once king of the Western wilderness but threatened with extinction for a third of a century, has roared back in Montana.

The finding, from a $4.8 million, five-year study of grizzly bear DNA criticized by Republican presidential candidate John McCain as pork barrel spending, could help ease restrictions on oil and gas drilling, logging and other development.

Researchers with the U.S. Geological Survey announced today that there are approximately 765 bears in northwestern Montana.

That's the largest population of grizzly bears documented there in more than 30 years, and a sign that the species could be at long last rebounding.

<snip>

The study was backed by Montana ranchers, farmers and Republican leaders as a step toward taking the species off the endangered species list. Since 1975, the bear has been threatened in the lower 48 states, a status that bars hunting and restricts any kind of development that could diminish the bear's population.

20. Millions of visitors to our national parks think $3 millions for grizzlies is money well spent
McCain is really lost in 20th century "sagebrush rebellion/anti-Washington messaging". He is not going to win with this one.

24. Not to mention Palin's Alaska requested
3.2 Million to study Seal DNA in Alaska. Also 2 Million to study crab mating habits in Alaska. These are requests for Federal funds, made by Palin, for the 2009 bugdet.

29. Republicans regularly lie with impunity, and seldom are they caught.
That's why they feel free to do it. In the name of "fairness" the MSM makes it look like both sides lie all the time when, in fact, one side lies a lot more and lies about things that matter a lot more--like why we should or should not go to war.
