So... Should Biden murderize Palin?
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 07:42 PM by moriah
It's going to be a tough call.

While I really want to see her pwned....

If he tries not to attack her but seems condescending, he'll lose points. If he takes off the gloves, he'll be seen to be picking on the "little lady".

My thoughts are this. She HAS a snarky streak, or at least did in the speech written for her.

He should match her snark for snark, but only to the same level of snark that she used. Otherwise, remain cool, calm, and collected, and stick strictly to policy without referring too much to his *own* record unless she brings it up. Sometime at the beginning of the debate when he would ordinarily refer to his record, say something like "The American People have the ability to check my record and see that I have voted as I am saying, so I will refrain from telling them what they already know."

Do not belittle her record as far as its lack any more than that, and when she tries to tout her executive experience, point out places where she made executive mistakes -- like the VAWA/rape kit issue.

Edit: She has such low expectations of her going in that if she manages to walk on the stage and chew gum at the same time, she's going to have been seen to win. What we want Biden to do is seem as he is -- intelligent -- without seeming condescending. Let HER be condescending.

1. Biden said several times he wouldn't 'condescend' to her, unlike "my fellow senator John"

19. He should treat her like a fellow candidate.
And show her the respect that McCain should have shown Obama but didn't. We certainly don't want Joe to make himself look like a first class asshole the way McCain did.

3. Biden should treat it like a town hall, and all but ignore Palin...

Biden should do a more civil and polite version of what McCain attempted to do with Obama, but with less interaction.

He can't win by prodding her or "snarking," and there's no need to. All he needs to do is answer the questions smoothly and competently, spilling lots of his knowledge and experience in the process. When drawing a contrast, he should contrast the position of his ticket ("Senator Obama and I believe") against the position of John McCain, and leave Palin out of it.

She can implode on her own. If she holds her own and doesn't sound totally goofy, he will still sound far more capable and experienced.

I think he is planning on all of this so he will be fine.

13. I'm sure he is, which is why I like who our candidate picked :)
He can't just let her score points off of him constantly out of fear that he's going to look like he's attacking the pitbull.

The reason I mentioned the record issue is that it appeared from the polling done of the undecideds with CNN that record stuff pissed them off, they already knew the records.

Acknowledge that, and let her bring stuff up, then hang herself. Like the VAWA issue. A line similar to:

"I realize it's hard for cities and states to pay for expensive DNA testing, that is why when I helped draft the VAWA that I included funding to help offset these costs. But Congress made it clear that this money was not like an earmark that you could take but then spend elsewhere -- if you continued to charge victims for the police work required to prosecute their rapists, you weren't going to get free money."

And if she brings up EC, as far as I know the VAWA does *not* mandate that states or cities must pay for EC to get funds, but says they can use those funds to pay for EC. Am I wrong here?

6. He just has to give her rope.
Palin: "Here at the debates, the voice of palin rears it's head, healthcare that all americans need, and taxcuts, not just for the rich but for everyday americans, I'm from alaska donchaknow, experience and judgment."

Biden: "What?"

tearing her to bits will only have critics saying that Biden "beat up on a girl". :yoiks:

12. Biden should wait for her to get snarky first (I give her 2.5 minutes)
and then call her on it and give it back in spades.

That's how he'll win.

Then hit her across the head with a 2 x 4 (metaphorically speaking, of course).

17. sarah is a very good debater. she has spent all her time practicing over the last couples weeks
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 09:52 PM by seabeyond
able to focus all her time because she has not done many rallies or interviews or worked on much other. also is the fact that because of the lack of rallies and interviews, her thoughts are pretty much her own and biden will not be able to have any idea of her postions, leaving him surprised in the debate, giving her a clear advantage

per one of bidens people...she is a terrific debater

20. If nothing else, our Biden is graceful.
She pretends to be, but either she had a really crappy speechwriter at the RNC or she really is just a horribly snarky, sarcastic bitch.

It would be best if he can beat the shit out of her and she not even know he did it. Which is likely what will happen.

As much as I want to see the "lady" cry, storm off the stage, run home to Alaska and kill a moose to comfort herself, I like moose. (Meece?)
