Sarah Palin Spam Carving Loses to Sushi

Artists with a sense of humor concocted mini-masterpieces made from the often-mocked processed meat in a Spam-carving event that drew smiles and guffaws on the faces of visitors to the Katonah Fall Festival.

This year's contest brought 19 entrants. There was a Spamalot, a SpamaMontana, a Spampire State Building, as well as a portrait of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin etched in Spam, complete with designer eyeglasses.

Passers-by voted for the winning entry, which bestowed a $25 gift certificate at Noka and Spam-carving bragging rights sure to awe even the most jaded suburban cocktail-party guests.

Virna Sandler won with her entry, a plate of sushi, a team effort she put together with her family.
