Is there a way to stop hating long enough to appreciate that Obama is WINNING?
And he is winning because many, many white people are voting for him. If all whites were racist, he's have never made it through the primaries. Guess what? Many, many whites AREN'T racist and are voting for a black president. Isn't that a cause to celebrate? This could never have happened 40 years ago.

The GOP may or may not be voting based on race. Some of them may be voting on that weird ass "Christianity" they espouse and some of them are scared of terra, terra, terra!!

And some of it is race.

But can we celebrate instead of separating with hatred?

2. I actually think Obama will win a few votes from the racists
Why? So they can pat themselves on the back and tell all of their friends that they are not racist because they voted for Obama.

22. A real racist would just vote for McCain and (if he worried about his image) would lie about it.
Racists will not vote Obama.

3. If someone is mad at someone for being racist and you aren't being racist..
then TRY not to take the conversation personally.

YOU are right. That *ushit that White Women don't support Obama is another load of crap just like the Obama is going to raise your taxes. PUUULEESE! Spare me.

I've been voting issues from the beginning of the campaign and Obama is closest to the approach Edwards had and he was my first choice.

It isn't anything about race for anyone using the god-given brain cells we were issued at birth and have been supposed to be breaking in for at least 18 years.

4. If America is smart enough to make this man the next President...
... and America is, and it will... maybe there's hope yet. I'm sick of being from a country that most of the world thinks kinda sux; especially living abroad. It's mortifying. It shames me. Enough.

14. Encouragement to you JeffR.
Don't let it get to you. We didn't get this far by being wrong all the time. We've done a few things right once in a while.

I'm sure you know what I'm going to say, but I will anyway, just to share what I'm thinking...

I can understand that people in other countries must be frustrated. We are too. We're working on it. We have a lot of brainwashed people here who gained power and are "driving the car". We're trying to get back control of it. I realize how much damage the US does around the world at the behest of the corporate behemoths, and I fervently hope that we can put an end to that. People here forget that we bear an awesome responsibility for what our government does around the world (a lot of it unreported or underreported), and I wish more people here would learn to consider the responsibility we have for all that when they vote. We are the ones who can control this country, and we must, b/c of its power - for good, but also for bad. This is no game, as it's taken to be by too many.

But if those in other countries would express opinions more through whatever access they may have (by writing or music or whatever), encouraging people in the RIGHT DIRECTION (pro Obama for instance), then some here might hear that and be influenced by it. That's what it's all about. You never know, it might help.

5. Barack has made it farther than any minority in a western country
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 03:08 AM by Middle finga
that has a majority of whites. Even though Europe and Canada seems to be more libral and tolerant, they haven't had a minority in the position that Barack is in. We also celebrate Kings birthday, I can't think of another western nation that has a holiday for a minority. So America has come a long ways. Now what I would like to see is the ultra conservatives drop their resistance to Obama and let History take it's course and it will be good for the nation. Then we could look at the rest of the world and say America has matured and overcame BITCHES!!!!

6. Why are you upset?
The "white racist" mantra is the call to the GOP base.

I'm a white woman who supports Obama. I have a brain. A lot of people do, no matter what they're race.

Who is hating, people on DU or reporters spewing venom?

Please advise -- I don't think it's gonna make a difference in this election. Obama has done well - John McCain has not passed the basic temperament test.

Obama is going to win - repeat this to yourself.
Now please don't be upset anymore.

Yeah. It probably wouldn't have happened forty years ago.
And I guess that IS a good thing.

I guess there ARE still some dinosaurs that see race as a consideration but that is a minority.

And most of them would never vote for a Democrat anyway.

30. I think that's a bit naive
It may ameliorate the future but it does not nullify this country's racist past.

And frankly I'm not too sure about the ameliorate part of my statement.

I shall wait until November before I break out the champagne thank you very much.
