why Barack Obama and I don't give a Shit about McCain looking at someone in their eyes!
I find it very erroneous that many are interpreting John McCain's lack of eye contact as having any real meaning to Barack Obama or that it should to any of us.

Personally, I don't believe that Barack Obama gives a good shit if John McCain is not man enough to look at Barack in the eyes. You see, this is John McCain's problem, not Baracks; and it certainly isn't ours.

That's what I find so fascinating about some of discussions going on here about this occurence; it gives McCain too much credit as though his stupid immature childlike dumbass behavior made some kind of impact on anyone but himself.

The only thing disconcerning to me about the whole incident is not how it made Barack Feel....because I don't believe that Barack gives a shit. But what does bother me a bit is that folks act like John McCain suceeded at doing something that made Barack feel uncomfortable, or less worthy then, or some other awkward shit.

So let me clear things up so that there is no misunderstanding; Barack didn't then, and does not Now give a shit about what John McCain does in that sense. All that is clearer now than it may have been before is that John McCain is barely a man.

Think about it!

2. Yup
to that last part. Actually I think McCain feels that to actually look at his opponent is to dignify him, and he wants to make sure that people recognize that he's much too superior to actually grace Obama with his gaze. It's old-school. But I also think in his innermost self, he's scared to death to actually look into Obama's eyes because he recognizes that he's in the presence of true greatness, something he himself will never achieve.

But yeah, I don't think Obama gives a damn whether McCain looks at him or not.

3. It matters to me but only in the sense of the insight
it gives me into McCain's character. For a man who says he is fit to be President based on years of "working across the aisle"; his demeanor leaves one wondering how he would accomplish that. It was the whole package of sneers and disdain for a colleague that turned me off. It is not a reflection on Obama in anyway; but is legitimate to point out that it indicates that McCain is unfit for office. I believe Obama would agree since he has often pointed out that temperament is a fair campaign issue; and McCain's attitude last night fits that description.

5. Dems need to DROP the "he didnt look obama in the eyes" issue
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 06:19 AM by Essene
Obama is ahead. He won the debate.

This can be taken as a distracting whiner/victimization issue and awareness of mccain's nastiness will not change votes.

It takes things off-message...

It's harming McDildo in the polls and that is all that is important to me...He's coming off as a contemptuous, snarling, insolent, and possibly racist jack ass...

8. Yes, I agree there's way too much emphasis
on McCain's lack of eye contact. But what I don't get is why some believe Barack was actually hurting deep inside because of it. What is this transference of hurt feelings about? I mean, why do you feel that Barack does not give a shit?

9. What's important and interesting about the eye thing is what it reveals about McCain...
I haven't read anything here about what Barack might have felt. We couldn't know that he cared ~ or that he doesn't give a shit either.

10. McCain's family is FROM Mississippi...
I didn't know that until the media was interviewing Mississippians the morning of the debate and they were upset that one of "their own" might dis them by not showing up. I think he was playing to the crowd in the hall in code by not properly acknowledging his debate foe, but as Frenchie points out, that is his weakness and has nothing to do with our candidate. So, a Mississippi boy who is not polished enough to code his racism properly has to go to Arizona where people aren't used to reading that Deep South dialectic disrespect to get himself elected. I thought it was significant that he doesn't mention his Mississippi roots, but the fact that he doesn't flags his bigoted behavior.

Barack Obama has made it his life's work to inspire others and effect positive change ANYONE who shows disrespect to him is signaling their own insecurity and inferiority. McCain is a loser.

11. I'm sure Obama is mature enough to see that it is McCain's problem,
and it is! But it reveals what kind of person McCain is, and we can use that information in a positive way. The contrast was incredible! Who do you want to run your country - someone who genuinely smiles and looks you in the eye that you can trust, or some problem-riddled person who is so insecure he cannot look the opponent or his wife in the eye with a handshake?

It's info for us, not Obama.
