4. You're welcome! Schieffer asking about the bailout now...
"First of all, this was an urgent situation and is an urgent situation..."

Obama says that some core principles "appears to have been incorporated into the core agreement" and goes ahead
to list those principles which "make sure it's not welfare for Wall Street."

7. My local CBS station is showing "Tunnel to Towers Run," from 9-11 am.
And it is now 10:38 a.m., with no mention of "Face the Nation." Perhaps it will come on after this. ?????

That's actually good, because I can watch it all by itself. I hate how NYC shows all the political shows at the exact same time.

8. Based on Schieffer's summary of the plan, it looks OK.

Includes re-working of bad mortgages, to keep people in their homes.

Caps CEO pay -- though no mention, so far, of how that would be enforced.

Makes taxpayers part-owners (in a sense) of these banks.

Phases in the $$$ -- not a big honkin' check for $700 billion.

Includes oversight -- no "King Hank Paulson."

17. Schieffer asked him about how he felt about McBush saying "Senator Obama doesn't understand..."
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 09:47 AM by ClarkUSA
Obama did a neat pivot (paraphrasing), "What I don't understand is Senator McCain's position on the issues...
unless he has a secret understanding of Bush's policies."

Everyone noticed, he shouldn't do anything to suggest his feelings were hurt and make the conversation about him instead.

39. That's right... Obama didn't make it personal but pivoted elegantly to smack McCain.
"I'm still not exactly sure what Senator McCain thinks I don't understand." It was a thing of beauty. :toast:

9. Outlined his four principles and said it appears they are incorporated in the bailout agreement.
He said, if those are contained in fact, he will vote for the bill but the whole thing doesn't make him happy.

He did a good job tethering this whole problem to the Repug failed policies and his populist principles.

53. It's called Superior IQ ~ he has the ability to digest information

see all the facets and make informed decisions based on what he has heard, read, felt on an emotional level.

Some Identified Gifted students can hold the information but can not communicate it in 7/11 terms to those he/she talks to -- they use words that are way above the heads of the masses.

He listens, really listens.

His ability to communicate his thoughts to others is off the charts.

It's a gift and I pray that the American people will be given this gift on November 4th.

He is brilliant and still has the common touch.

Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 09:47 AM by Zenlitened
... who is intelligent and insightful? Who is intellectually curious? Who is AWARE of what's going on in the world around him, and is able to think and reason creatively about it?

Wow.

Sen. Obama will be a smart, solid, focused president, exactly what we need so urgently right now.

John McCain? Holy shit. He looks more and more like a doddering, demented old man every day.

It will be great -- not only for Americans, but for the entire world.

In response to a question regarding McCain chiding him for wanting to meet with Ahmidinejad...

"Kennedy met with Krushchev, Nixon met with Mao, Reagan met with Gorbachev."

Smackdown (delivered with a steel fist in a velvet glove)

Heh.

36. Bob Scheiffer is a good interviewer. he asked tough question, but allows Obama to respond
without interruptions. I thought Obama did great. I like how he side-stepped the question on Palin. There is no need for Obama to pile on. Palin has done a good job os destroying her credibility all on her own.

He chuckled at everything Jon said that skewered Republicans/McCain/Palin. You know that McCainiac Tom Brokaw would have been
offended if Jon had said the same things to him.

49. Not to be one of those DUer's who jumps in with unnecessary snark ;)
And I truly don't mean this snarky, but I prefer the media not be on one side or the other.

I'd rather they stay on the side of truth and facts, and help make all politicians and Corporate America accountable to the American people.

That's my Pollyanna wish today. :)

Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 10:14 AM by ClarkUSA
But it'd be strange if journalists didn't see what a disaster Republicans have been for the country for the past eight years
and laugh when Jon Stewart points it out in his inimitable way.

Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 10:08 AM by RichGirl
Except for a teleprompter speech I've never heard him speak so clearly and succinctly. Considering how awful the subject matter was, he chose every word perfectly...with exactly the right tone of concern, but not alarm. Caution, with hope.

When he was asked about "I can see Russia" I thought, please don't laugh. Just a smile...whew! There is absolutely nothing that can be criticized about what he said regarding Palin.
