Anybody out there like politics?
If you do, this week could be a real barnburner.

1. I may throw myself a life preserver and just unplug the Internets right now.

2. I think most people here like, or at least are interested in, politics, but
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 10:08 AM by onenote
a number of folks don't really understand politics. (Which may explain the threads predicting that Palin will drop/be pushed from the repub ticket).

3. I do, I'm obsessed with politics
Not in the cerebral way, but with the drama of it all. This campaign - 2 years of it - has been the most incredibly emotional time I can remember in politics since... I guess the impeachment. No, the FL recount in 2000. NO, the Ohio recount I took part in! I love the human drama of it all, even when we lose the battle and I'm left devastated. The process fascinates me no end.

We've only got a little over a month left to go, and I'm exhausted. The rollercoaster has been thrilling, frustrating, infuriating, inspirational... I find myself crying a lot. And this upcoming week? Will I survive it? I hope so!

4. We're gonna make it.
And Barack Obama will defeat the hapless John McCain for the presidency.

I'm going to like our country better when Obama is at the helm.

12. So will I. I'm not going to know how to act.
I remember how much lighter my step was in 1992. It was a fabulous feeling. I can't wait to feel that way again!

5. I agree with all you said, but
there are times that I'd like to go back and just not give a darn. I'm 58 and until the mid ninties, I always thought that everybody wanted the same things, but had a different way of getting to it.
Then the pukes went after Clinton for nothing and I started paying attention. Boy, was I wrong all my life.

BTW, the first time I even thought about looking at politics on the PC. The first political message I ever received was from Move-on. I signed up and it's been a roller coaster ride ever since.

13. Republicans, without a doubt, are a nasty breed.
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 01:04 PM by CitizenLeft
Not all rank and file Republicans - that 70% approval rating Clinton had right in the middle of the impeachment process was not just Democrats and independents. Many Republican voters joined in screaming "ENOUGH." But the RNC and the Republican "leadership"... they are as vile as anything I've ever seen in my life. But Clinton defeated them. And WE'LL defeat them this time.

Makes me smile through my nervous breakdown. :)

6. I can't say that I like politics but I am obsessed with them
I feel that politics are important part of being American. Everyone should be involved.

It pisses me off that there is one group of people that want to alienate so many Americans from their civic duty. That is why I feel it is important that I put an extra effort forth to get more people involved.

7. I have been into politics since 1992 when Bill Clinton and Al Gore came on the scene
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 10:37 AM by Jennicut
I was only 16 but even the kids in my high school were excited by Bill and Al. The dynamics between old vs new, change vs past was very relevant then as well. Poppy Bush and Reagan had been in power 12 years and people had had enough. Too bad Al never got the chance to be president and it was stolen from him because he would have been great, better then Clinton in my opinion. I wanted Kerry to win so badly in 2004 but the country was not ready. We are ready now after all Bush has done and now McCain is starting to falter and I couldn't be more excited. Hopefully momentum goes their way. I think Barack has been underestimated by the pundits and even some of his own supporters. The guy just is so calm, he has it all under control.

9. Yes. I remember the thrill of the 1992 win over Poppy Bush.
Poppy didn't leave much of a positive mark on the republic, did he.

Obama/Biden is a tremendous ticket for us. And McCain is thrashing around like an idiot. He earns his early nickname of McNasty.

There've been a couple posts with photos of the 26,000 or so people who came to the Frederickburg, Virginia rally for Obama this weekend - in the rain.

Now there's a reliable poll.

8. My bizarre prediction for the week
Sarah Palin will step down from the ticket for family reasons and unknown congressman Paul Ryan will be picked up as VP. He is equally frightening, but he is as smart as she is dumb. You heard it here first.

11. It could be. McCain's internals must be even worse than the
commercial polls at this point.

He's likely to name just about anybody to replace Palin. Who knows what he was thinking when he chose her -- or when she was chosen for him -- whichever it was.
