CNN just showed results of a VP debate poll-
Who will do better in the debate, Biden or Palin.

Tied at 48%.

Interesting, huh? I see this as good news.
Expectations are equal.

Palin win the debate? Please :eyes:....
It is conceivable that she may show up and put two or three coherent sentences together and not actually drool and that will of course be spun as evidence of Palin being a "quick learner" or some such crap, but there is no way that dimwit will "win" by any reasonable definition of that word...

2. Fox has been running with the 'Will Biden step aside?' and
Biden the 'gaffe machine' so maybe lots of people have a low expectation of him.

This should be interesting.

8. Good - let them do that. And when Biden kicks ass on Thursday, his
approval numbers will go up, as will our ticket.

14. Fox nooose that's what's wrong with them heh. When they see for themselves
They'll realise that they've been lied to. Well the people with brains anyways. The freepers will double think themselves back into agreement with hannity.

7. I'm too cynical -- I'm thinking the Palin supporters voted for her, the Biden
supporters for him (I know I did!) I just don't understand how the same percentage of people could actually think that Palin could do better in the debate.

And regardless of how the debate goes, those supporting McCain/Pailin will say she won, don't you think?

10. You don't understand because (thank goodness) you don't
'think' like a Republican. To them, the only thing that matters is the R.

11. I don't know - Palin has been getting alot of criticism from her side.
I guess I'm one of the few people around here that think Palin will do really well Thursday nite.
Not as good as Joe, but better than people expect.

15. No you are not the only person who thinks Palin will do well
Thursday night. I expect she will spew Republican nonesense very well after the intensive prep she will be getting. However I am counting on Biden to come through for Obama and present his case to the american people strongly.

16. Yeah, a few DUers are in agreement - and you may very will be right.
It would be better if the McCain camp hadn't put such restrictions on the interaction between the two of them - Non-scripted she falls apart. Or at least says some really stupid things.

It will also depend on how much Gwen I. will pursue the questions, like Charlie G. and Katie C. did, or if she'll just let it stand with Palin's rehearsed answer.

I don't think Biden will dance all over her - she can be impressive when she's prepared (like at the RNC), so I'm hoping she's nervous and that Gwen plays hardball.

23. The thing to remember
is that all she really did at the convention (and on the stump) is read a speech that a Bush speechwriter wrote for her off a teleprompter.

Not really so 'impressive'. And she won't have a teleprompter at the debate.

24. Understood -- but she came across as more relaxed and confident than
she did in the interviews. My concern is if she's asked questions for which she has a memorized response ready. And good point about the teleprompter -- even during the Katie Couric interview she appeared to be looking down at notes she had in her lap.

Biden was a Presindential candidate. He has debated Obama and Hillary ffs. Palin was picked out of nowhere(literally) and is completely ignorant on national issues. She's being freaking tutored as we speak!

As long as expectations remain high, she's doomed to underachieve.

20. Totally good news. The expectations game is critical. Biden ought to
praise Failin at every opportunity for her debating prowess and skillz.
Even I'm concerned that Biden might not be able to handle the Saracuda...

I suspect this is because Palin has gotten a LOT more media exposure than Biden.

Most people who don't closely follow politics probably know very little about the guy, hence the low expectations.

22. Biden is one of those unfamiliar/familiar people in the minds of most casual political observers.
He's familiar in the sense that he's been something of a fixture on those Meet The Press type news talk shows, but people don't necessarily put the name and the face together. When undecided people who haven't been following the campaign that closely see him on the VP debate then hopefully their reaction will be something along the lines of "Oh, it's that guy! I've seen him before!" and they will be impressed with his in depth grasp of the issues in comparison to Palin who I expect to be long on attacks and short on substance.

28. You have got to be kidding me.
Anyone who has 2 functioning brain cells should know that Palin knows nothing and speaks like she knows nothing. She is however, great at using words and saying NOTHING.
