Why is the result of the upcoming election still in question???
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 03:52 PM by Cyrano
There are really only three reasons:

1. Racism

2. Ignorance

3. Theft

Does anyone, other than a wingnut, have a fourth reason???

2. # 4. The Media
The people running the media in this country will say whatever shit they have to in order to keep some people confused.

8. I've got to agree. Many different things could happen
The most obvious being that Bush/Cheney have no intention of giving up power.

And who's to stop them from declaring martial law and claiming dictatorial powers?

Far too many Americans don't believe this could happen. I will stop believing "it couldn't happen" on January 20th, 2009 when Obama takes the oath of office.

6. Latest Gallup poll: Obama 50, McCain 42. Pollster.com: Obama 48, McCain 43.8.
When were Gore and Kerry ever this far ahead of Bush?

10. bradley effect
will show that such leads for Obama will never last. There were some polls in both 2000 and 2004 at few times that had such a lead for the Dems. But Obama's, like theirs, will be short lived

7. Race
That's it, end of story. If Barack was Barry Obin, it'd be a done deal.

9. 80.5%
fivethirtyeight.com is giving Obama an 80.5% chance of winning. I'd say that's pretty good.

11. When the country is as evenly divided as it is
it's always going to be close. The fight right now is for Independents and moderate Republicans that are undecided and Obama is winning. Your little list there is wrong!

12. its all race
as there is no other plausible reason that McCain has a shot. Its not just race though, its Obama's background. Its the fact he's a black man named Barack Hussein Obama. Hell, if his name were just Barry Orbison and were still black, he'd probably another point or two ahead. If he were white, he'd be ahead by a mile, and the GOP would siphon all McCain's money to Congress, just like they did in 1996 when they knew Bob Dole was going to lose, they spent all their money to keep Congress. It had a rather good chance of changing back Dem that year. If Perot hadn't been in the race to keep Clinton's poll numbers down by launching http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9D06EED81238F936A35752C1A960958260">30 minute attack ads against Clinton, Clinton woulda probably been able to do more for downticket races. He was http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1996/polls/cnn.usa.gallup/tracking/10.03-13.html">flying very high until Perot began campaigning again and the media covered stupid bullshit like China"gate" etc. In the end, Clinton did some campaigning for Congress in SD the day before the election, at the behest of esteemed outsted minority leader Daschle, which is what cost him being able to silence his critics, whereas had Clinton been able to go to NYC, Philly, Detroit, and California the day before election 1996, he woulda won by a bigger landslide.
