I'm not running for office, so I can say it...

I WANT TO BE PROUD OF MY COUNTRY AGAIN!

I want to wake up on November 5 and feel like a new era is beginning - a time of healing, a time of regaining our standing in the global community, a time of holding our heads up when we say we're Americans. I want to look forward to policies that benefit the most those who have the least. I want to leave behind the politics of greed, cronyism, stubbornness and ignorance. I want leadership more interested in REAL health care reform than in lining their own pockets. I want to feel like my president is smarter than me! I want to start out my career in science in a country that values knowledge. I want to prove that honor trumps racism. I want to hear the words "the president signed a bill into law" and not feel a sense of foreboding. I want to hope that - if my brand-new husband and I have kids - that we can leave them a better country (and world) than the one we came into.

This is a must-win, guys. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but... just had to get that off my chest. :)

18. I want what you speak of, SallyMander
This absolutely is a must-win.

My Slacker Uprising DVD arrived yesterday and I just finished watching it. The movie reminded me of the great swell of hope we had going into the 2004 election. Now, a huge lump has developed in my throat and knots have begun to tighten in my stomach thinking back to what transpired on that election night...

I was flooded with calls from friends and family living in SoCal, DC, Chicago, Lansing, MI, and Green, OH on election night. I recall the conversation I had with my dad, when I finally managed to reach him on his cell, sometime after 11PM... he and my mom were watching the results with Michael at a mutual friend's house. He had arrived minutes before my call, fresh off the tour. He was totally exhausted, but running on the adrenaline of knowing we were looking at a sure win. My dad was trying to reassure me as the results were being tallied... I was worried and he repeatedly told me, "Honey, Mike's sure we'll have a new president here in a few minutes, hang in there, Kiddo."

I just want to puke thinking about the real possibility of another stolen election.

Soothe my nerves like the Xanax I wish I had... please, talk me down! :scared:

19. Meanie! Sorry for laggin'

Your memories of '04 are much like mine... i was canvassing my little heart out in Cbus, and everyone i was talking with was SO excited, SO sure we'd win... i couldn't get out of bed the next day. I don't think i've ever felt so depressed.

That said, NOW IS NOT THEN!!! The polls look so much different than they did four years ago... the Dem registration numbers are crazy, the "excitement gap" is a chasm, they're even predicting a blue Indiana! :)

We can do it this time.
