I'm so weary of the ignorance of Americans
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 05:41 PM by Cyrano
"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people."

That line was written by H.L. Mencken, an editorialist in the early 20th century, and also, the model for the "reporter" in the movie and play "Inherit the Wind" which was about Clarence Darrow vs religious intolerance.

If you don't know who Clarence Darrow was, please, please, do yourself a huge favor and learn about him. He fought for the rights of unions when unions were considered "commies," he saved Leopold and Loeb from death in a case which was made into the film "Compulsion," and he spent his entire life fighting against bigotry, hatred and the vast mountain of ignorance that now defines America.

There is a beautiful post on today's front page about "Atticus Finch," the southern lawyer who is the focus, conscience and soul of "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Like the fictional Atticus Finch, the real Clarence Darrow spent his entire life fighting against ignorance, bigotry and injustice.

My biggest fear today is that too many Americans will be too ignorant, bigoted or enslaved by their own greed to vote for Obama.

5. It's true - and successful sociopaths should also be stigmatized, not admired...
This country has had its head up its ass about a lot of things.

8. But wouldn't the polls reflect that??
I have a hard time believing that a majority of people wouldn't vote for him because of his color. There are quite a few African American congressmen, are there not??

9. Black congresspersons are elected in predominantly black districts.
Perhaps, just perhaps, a majority of American voters will "get it" and vote for the person who best represents the interests of us all -- Obama.
