Poll question: Do You Think Obama Will Win In A Landslide? (ie, by more than 53% and 300 EVs)
Yes or no.

I say yes, and have felt that way for over a year now.

2. If there were no "voting" machines in existence, yes. It would be a landslide
But with the machines, we have to hope the turnout exceeds the fraud, as it did in 2006.

Yes, they tried to steal that one. And succeeded in many races, though the overall results were positive.

31. I think you're right
I think the Repugs are going to take a look at their own internals, realize it's not even close enough to make it worth taking the risk of getting caught stealing votes, especially with a Dem AG coming into office in a few months. I think they'll just accept the loss and try to regroup and put together a plan to get the Senate back two years from now.

That's my feeling. I don't think the internal polls will be close enough for them to try fraud.

either that or there will be some massive "Terrorist" attack and we are all being trained into FEMA prison camps the weekend before we're supposed to vote.

one of those two I'm sure. (kinda hoping for option #1 myself)

Something could change, though, and I don't expect McCain to just roll over and give up.

I have never heard Clinton vs. Dole described as a landslide win, and that was 50-42

7. I hope he wins
The whole world would celebrate if he won. Our image around the world would improve 100% if we elected Obama. But I thought Kerry was going to win and he didn't,and there are a lot of racist people in this country. I even have gay friends who have been to prison and would never vote for a black guy because of that. They wanted Hillary.

9. I don't think so. If only!
But I think it'll be closer, mainly due to voter suppression and other blackhat techniques that the repugs are so expert at.

I would love to be wrong on this. I just daren't hope for a landslide ... feels like hubris, which is more of a Republican trait.

11. No. Republican voter fraud and/or suppression will slice 3% off the total popular vote.
So it will be close.

Get out (or stay home and phonebank) and GOTV, everyone!

13. Where landslide = 70% of the EV = 375, Obama currently has a 25% chance of getting it....
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 05:54 PM by BlooInBloo
(which is greater than McLost's chances of winning *at all*)

For the uber-low EV bar you set, it's a lock.

EDIT: And getting that high in the popular vote is a non-starter.

32. States picked up... beyond last time out.
Iowa looks dead cert.
I'd suggest New Mexico, Colorado definitely... also to Virginia and I think N. Carolina. Obama base in those two states is fired up and registrations etc. But no to Indiana, Missouri, Ohio.
Cheers

No effort, and even in a landslide, we likely lose by about 3-4 points.

and it will fall that way, +/-10EVs and a solid win for Obama.

22. I think it is possible
Too many people are up against it these days, and if O is consistent in his strategy and debate performances, there is going to be a steady drip, drip, drip that will benefit him. I am guessing 53-45 and a fairly broad electoral college margin

34. Very little chance 53% or higher
A Democrat nationwide? Doesn't work that way. We'll be buried in too many areas.

A high number is always possible in the electoral college if everything breaks narrowly our way.

Mark Warner had potential for the number you're talking about. Once we narrowed it to a woman or a black we limited the high end margins. The polls right now don't accurately represent the ballot box realities. It's not a 5-8 point race, no more than McCain was ahead by 2 about two weeks ago. Obama should win close, by 2-3.

35. its not because he's a Democrat
that he wouldn't get that nationwide, because exit polls in both http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E0CE0DB1F3FF936A35752C1A964958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=1">1992 and http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1996/elections/natl.exit.poll/index1.html">1996 show that Bill Clinton absolutely woulda have gotten that if pro-choice pro-gay anti-NAFTA Ross Perot had been gone. Its because Obama, against the party of Bush, barely has led by more than 3 in this campaign, which is likely due to his skin color and name. Hillary, who had http://electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Clinton/Maps/Jun03.html">REAL map changing potential would have been able to get a higher percent of the vote.

36. He needs to go INTO the election with at least a 10 point
lead, in order to WIN. I say this because I am skeptical about polls (people lie to hide their racism and narrow-mindedness), and because I believe the repubs will do everything in their power to steal it, and the closer it is, the easier for them.

38. I voted yes, but that's ASSUMING the vote isn't hacked...
And that's a pretty damn big assumption. I would not be surprised if the Repukes steal it again.

If it were a clean election, I'd expect Obama to win by a landslide. However I'm not a expecting a clean election--for me it's just a question of how dirty.

39. I can't allow myself to get my hopes up.
No Democrat since Lyndon Johnson in 1964 has managed to do that well. In fact, in the last 40 years only Jimmy Carter managed to make it to 50% (just barely, in 1976). Bill Clinton was kept under 50% both times.

Still, the polls do look good; McCain-Palin might just tank completely; and Obama's vaunted field organization might turn out to be everything it's rumored to be. I don't know. Fingers crossed.
