I heard on NPR today that no one in Palin's family knows where she picked up her accent. |
|
Apparently, no one in her family speaks with that twangy, northern MidWest accent.
Perhaps Palin IS very much like Bush... ya'll. ;)

2. That's an alaska accent |

listen to some of their radio commentators. It is much more nasal than the northern midwest accent.

5. Yes. It has the same flatness you get anywhere west of Rochester, NY. |
|
Hillary Clinton has it too, without the nasal tone.
On television, women have whispering voices, southern accents, British accents, or no accents.

also she didn't look like she was from the same family. Blonde hair, thin and actually very Celtic in features. :eyes: Maybe Sarah was from "the other side of the blanket."

I know, my husband is from Minnesota. We figured she watched Fargo one too many times.

7. Oh please - its a classic PNW accent |
|
a little Great Lakes Scandahoovlian, a little flat midwestern nasal twang, a little Canadian.
It's hard to do properly because you tend to slip into a "Fargo" Great Lakes accent, which actually runs east to buffalo.

If she is making that voice up she's even stupider than I thought because it's the most annoying accent I've ever heard. Makes me ill everytime I hear her.

18. Twice that I have been to Alaska, once to the main part like |
|
Fairbanks and Anchorage and the second time to the panhandle, I never noticed that particular accent. The accent I heard was more North West like you would hear in Spokane. Maybe many Minnesota loggers got transplanted there and I just didn't run across them. I used to live in the Sandpoint, Idaho area too and that accent isn't the one the locals speak with.

At least not NW MN next to ND..... maybe the range, but suspect they don't want to be associated with her either. I think we are more the sing songy scandinavians up here with a touch of influence from Canada, not sure why we are associated with "Fargo" or Palin. It doesn't sound at all like anyone I know, very foreign. A friend tells me Fargo is more of the accent of the Finns on the range... but I really am not sure that it isn't just a big exaggeration of that.

33. Palin's speech indicates a learning disorder |
|
My daughter has a process/speech learning disorder and sounds as if she grew up in certain parts of New Jersey. But, we are a SF Bay Area family with no one who talks the way she does. Our daughter gets lots of speech therapy but the unusual accent she has is part of the learning disorder. I believe Governor Palin has a similar disorder and that is why no one else sounds like her in her family or probably elsewhere except for Tina Fey who copies Palin's speech to a T.
