Thank god Gwen Ifill took it easy on Palin. It showed she's not an Obama partisan.

I really respect Ifill a lot more now. She proved she's more than willing to listen to the right wing's constructive criticism.

I was so worried the right wing would claim bias. The fact that they're not screaming bias is pretty telling.

2. In what respect Walter?
Ifill did what she needed to do. The right tried to take her down a notch because she shares the same racial category with Obama.

Would attacking her after the debate make Palin look better? Or would attacking Ifill just highlight the fact that most Republicans attack Black regardless of what position he/she holds and whatever he/she stands for.

I'm sure in circles where race is a thing of the past, no one would notice how race seems to stand out with these Republican folks. But for me, it is obvious they were trying to gain leverage over the debate just in case Palin came across as a blithering idiot.

Her sidestepping every question for a hour and a half stood out in and of itself.

6. I was being a bit sarcastic. I think Ifill caved, like I expected her to.
Nothing against Ifill. I think she's usually a good reporter. But Jim Lehrer caved to the right in the 2000 debates -- he was way tougher on Gore than Bush -- and Ifill did the same here. No follow up questions. The questions were all simple and expected. No curve balls.

This probably wasn't much tougher for Palin than reading the teleprompter at the RNC.

Palin's great when she's allowed to just spout cliches. She's not so good when she has to think.

3. She is a poor moderator - letting Palin run off at the mouth without
answering most of the questions was disgraceful. D- performance for Ifill

7. Yeah, that's how I saw it to. Guess the perqs are hard to give up.
The fame and the money gets to mean more than personal integrity pretty quickly.

9. Glad that talking point is gone BUT I resent that some view Palin more favorably
now that she was allowed to skate her way through the debate. :puke:

I still give our side a +1 although I wish Palin could have got knocked out tonight. But HONEST, THINKING people will acknowledge that Palin is out of her league.

10. Ifill
How many times can you repeat, a talking head is a talking head. It did seem that when a question was asked of Biden it needed thought to answer, but Palin seemed to get the softballs when she was up. I saw that as an advantage for Biden as he clearly had answers, whereas she had talking points. Ifill and the Lerher team are centrists or slightly right anyway. At least she is at reasonably fair.

11. It wa a general debate

Very few questions were overly substantive...and the one candidate and the blowup doll beside him were allowed to digress how they saw fit.

Tonight I nearly wept for our nation. To have such a limited person on stage with a fine man of distinguished character and experience was appaling to me.
