1. He is a human being.
And should not be hidden away in a closet or an asylum as was done to baby's like him many years ago. Good for you your life is so perfect and the beautiful people around you are perfect in every way. heaven forbid they be Tote bags.

7. Stop that. This has nothing to do with Trig having Down Syndrome. The fact is
that Palin is shamelessly using her baby as a prop. That infant should have been fast asleep in the comfort of his crib last night and not used for photo-ops and then to be pawned off.

8. Bingo!
I think most here get it, but obviously don't! Trig is not the target of the post; heis a victim of ambitious, selfish parents who drag him out of his home, his state, and bring him to rallies, speeaches, and a debate around at all hours of the day and night. That kid should have been in a crib, in a drak and quiet room. Her exploitation of her own baby, made worse because he is a special needs child, is a demonstration of her character- i will let others be the judge. My verdict is in.

But, OmmmSweetOmmmm, you knew that already! :hi:

14. I raised two children and when they were infants,
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 09:47 AM by OmmmSweetOmmm
knew my kids needed a safe, secure environment and made sure that at night, they were getting the sleep/down time they needed, either in their cribs or unfortunately, being the softy I am, very often in my bed. :)

I also know that excessive stimulation is detrimental to their sensitive nervous systems. A child being handed off time and again cannot possibly feel secure.

And from your words npincus, I know that you already know that too!!!

:hi:

17. absolutely,
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 09:56 AM by npincus
it almost seems like they are taking advantage of his disability, maybe not consciously, but on some level... like, it's OK because he doesn't know the difference anyway.

Her insensitivity toward her own child... well, is Trig a baby or a tote bag? He is obviously a beautiful baby. So why is his mother and his father treating him like a tote-bag?

:hi:

12. No one is saying that Trig should be hidden away. What we are saying is
that ANY infant should get more consideration for their comfort and well-being than Sarah Palin has shown for her son. She uses him as an accessory to evoke empathy from her audience. This is not proper treatment for any infant.

2. Please remove this - babies, especially babies with incapacities
are not fuel for a partisan bonfire

Thank you

5. it is not to be taken literally; this is an attack on her craven exploitation
of her baby. Having squeezed out 5 kids does not make her a wiser parent. As a mother myself, I am horrified the way they drag that infant around the country, bring him to speeches and rallies, in this case a debate- at a time of night when he should be in a quiet, dark room fast asleep.

There is anger here- at PALIN. Even a paid caretaker and not a family member (if none were available) would have done better by Trig than schlepping him around LIKE A TOTE BAG... what is wrong with pointing that out?

Palin's authenticity as a caring parent and her judgement are the target of this OP, not Trig.

26. If you're really a mother, maybe you shouldn't refer to her as having "squeezed out" babies
It, along with this poll, is extremely unbecoming.

The fatuous way that people here post nasty, inflammatory polls to make a single point
is really depressing. It's showboating.

4. I wish they would just stuff a onesie with news paper or something...
For her to carry around and leave that poor child at home in bed. They always have him out so late at night, when he should be getting his sleep. Dragging him out on stage at 9 or 10 o'clock at night stinks. :(

9. I was shocked to see her hand him off to a kid who was only a few inches taller than he was.
That kid could barely hold him, let alone hold him and walk around with him. Palin had him for -- what -- one flipin' photo op? -- and then she pawned him off on whatever oldest kid was nearby. Wasn't this the same kid who was acting as nanny at the convention?

10. I thought the same thing.
Had that kid dropped Trig it would have been horrible and not to mention disasterous for Palin and McCain politically. After all what kind of judgment does it show to hand off a rather large baby to a rather small child and expect them to be able to carry them around without issue?

27. I kept wondering why the baby and the youngest child were even at the debate.
And why she hadn't handed the baby to her teenaged daughter or a nanny.

11. Americans are NOTORIOUS for treating their babies/infants as baggage. Palin takes it a bit further
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 08:36 AM by cryingshame
but any store or public space I go to, the majority of parents treat their babies and infants like they're a handbag or suitcase.

Plunk em down into the shopping cart and forget them. Ignore their screaming for attention.

Drag them around in a stroller and who cares if they get bored? Mom's too self-absorbed in picking out a new .............. for herself to talk to the youngin.

It's a rare parent these days who go about their activities with their young kids and are able to include the kids on some level.

22. My heart stops when they hand off the little one to the 7yo girl.
She is TOO YOUNG to be carrying an infant, especially WALKING AROUND WITH HIM.

It's very disconcerting to watch them do this. I want to reach through the TV and slap the adults for pawning off that little infant onto the little girl.

25. These people are third rate trash
Anyone who uses their child as a political prop has the morality of a fascist jackbooted scoundrel. Don't kid yourself, she and McCain are racists. McCain is claiming that the legislation that outlawed "red-lining" forced bankers to make loans to minorities who couldn't qualify is an out right lie. The only thing first class about him is that he is a first class lying bastard.

30. Clearly a tote bag.
She starts off the debate talking about how she's qualified and will be on the side of parents of children with special needs...

...and then ends using Trig as a baby prop when she should be at home resting and she held him for all of 3 minutes before passing him around like a hot potato with the kid finally ending up in the arms of the 6 year old.

Any parent should be absolutely appalled by the way she treats that baby, especially when she uses him so openly as a political tool. She cares for special needs kids so much she can't even be bothered to hold her baby for more than a couple minutes and sometimes when she does she holds him like a wet sack. My mom saw her holding Trig like that once and ranted about it for days.
