Does the joe six pack crowd now think its a bad thing to have an idiot in the white house? |
|
I think so, I really do. We've all lived through an 8 year nightmare that is now capped off by the worst financial disaster in most of our lifetimes. We've had a trillion dollar unnecessary war, the destruction of a US city due to negligence and incompetence, and the dismantling of our constitution.
I have many work associates who voted for Bush in 2004 because they just didn't like Kerry. While most of them are still stupid enough to think that was a defensible position with what they knew back then, they now realize the error of their ways - that George Bush is objectively a complete idiot, who was never intellectually qualified to be President. Nor has he ever had the temperament or judgment. Most everybody knows this now. We can question how they couldn't have figured it out previously, but the bottom line is they know now what they should have known then.
Enter McCain and Palin: If there is anything positive this economic crisis has done, its refocused most Americans on issues that really matter. No longer are we hearing bullshit stories about arugula or how Obama doesn't like crappy beer like the "rest of us" (BTW, I love it that Obama likes good quality beer). Even after Palin's very surprising performance last night, where she both made complete sentences and looked enticing while doing so, a good bit of the commentary today talks about Palin still not being qualified for President.
Yeah, so she is a folksy rock star who can make complete sentences - I think most still don't think this qualifies her for President. And McCain's temperament has been just as critical an issue these past few weeks. Everyone sees that he's flailing while Obama is looking calm and collected.
Bottom line, I think that George Bush has fucked up so badly that the Joe six pack crowd is more interested in a President who can perform the job than whether they want to have a beer with them. For that reason, the race looks even better today than it did yesterday.

...less rate is revealing the fact that other industries are being hit by the downturn and just HEARING a friend being out of a job perks up ones ear.

3. I think so too. People actually might think its a good thing to have someone smarter than them... |
|
In the whitehouse. This is really a silly position that many have - that it would be bad if a highly intelligent person became President. I don't think being intelligent is the only thing you need, but gosh, why would people look at this as a negative?

5. Agreed. But the question is, would they still do so again? I don't think so... |
|
At least a lot of them seem to think putting idiots in the White House might not really be the best idea.
