McCain's camp response to Keating 5: Obama has Keating 3
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1008/The_Keating_Three.html?showall

"McCain spokesman Brian Rogers notes that three of McCain's fellow members of the Keating Five have endorsed Obama: Former senators Dennis DeConcini. John Glenn, and Donald W. Riegle. All three are Democrats -- McCain was the only Republican in the group -- and DeConcini and Riegle were among the more deeply implicated officials."

HA! That was an absolutely WEAK response! McCain's camp is flailing in the wind trying to find out a way to respond to the Keating 5 charge. I was expecting something better than this. They are clearly unprepared to talk about this and McCain might look like a deer in the headlights when Obama mentions this tomorrow at the debate. This is golden folks. We MUST keep pushing this issue!

1. Very weak response
and no real turn around with it, either.

Nothing about the economy, which was what Obama tied the Keating 5 scandal to.

4. The McCain campaign wants to smear John Glenn AND still win Ohio?
Lol.

Yeah, good luck with that.

And does this mean that John McCain hasn't endorsed himself? Interesting.

15. Yeah, somehow being the only dirty Republican in the Keating 5 is good
Yeah, there's no way to spin this at all. Especially given how he's obviously not learned his lessons-- all he's learned is that he should be more careful about campaign donations and he's already turned his back on that when he broke the very same laws that his own bill sets forth.

17. It is a non-responsive answer
Yeah, of all the senators who were tagged Keating 5, there are only two party affiliation choices - that'd be democrat or republican and it is irrelevant. All 5 probably donate campaign contributions, and that is irrelevant.

What is relevant is that only one of the reprimanded Keating 5 is taking a run at the White House. Only one will be in charge of our economy, which is the reason why this is seriously relevant.

That'd be John McCain. The Republican who still hangs with the same kind of corrupt people and does the same time of crap that caused the S&L crisis. He wrote the "favor" letters and placed extreme pressure on the regulators on behalf of his good buddy Charles Keating of Lincoln S&L - exactly the behavior that he engages in today with respect to other industries via lobbyists like Vicki Iseman. Except that during the Keating deal, he was right out there in front, transparent as all get out. Arrogant stupid little suck, calling the shots right until the regulators got pissed and blew the whistle on all of them.

I am betting that if someone digs deep enough, he is back at it again with the banking industry specifically, bet he was so obvious that his name is all over whatever he did, and that he could be almost taken out if the Obama camp has found the goods on him.

I am hopeful.

18. Why does his campaign make things more difficult than they need to be?
They could have simply said that McCain made a mistake, was repentant and worked for (and received) redemption. Dragging other Senators into the fray is where they fucked up and showed everyone that they are beyond desperate.
