Somewhere in Indiana....
So, I just got back from a trip to Lowe's, and I'm compelled to tell you a quick story about the trip. As I was pulling in to the aisle where I was parking, a small pickup truck pulled in just before me. On the back, adorning the vehicle, were 3 Obama stickers and I couldn't help but notice the veteran's license plate. Being a veteran myself, I felt compelled to say something to the elderly man struggling out of the vehicle and onto the pavement with a small oxygen tank in tow. I smiled at him and said "I like your bumper stickers" and gave him a thumbs up. He smiled a big smile and jabbed a thumbs up in the air enthusiastically.

On the way out, I decided to drive down a couple of aisles to see if we were in the minority. It is, after all, Indiana. The tally - 5 vehicles with Obama bumper stickers. McCain = 0.

I've got a really good feeling about this one, folks. I'm feeling really proud of my state at the moment, I really hope we can pull this one out for Obama. If a frail elderly veteran can feel enthusiastic about politics again after having been through this countless times, do we really have any excuse not to?

Change IS coming. The change we need.

2. Somebody should do an official bumpersticker poll
Not that it will show anything definitively, but one thing's for sure - the people who are voting McCain in this election aren't particularly proud of that fact if bumperstickers and yard signs are any indication.

4. My dad, an 83-year-old WWII vet, who lives in Indiana
is voting for Obama as well. In fact, he voted for him in the PRIMARY before we even discussed it. I think that generation can recognize a true leader when they see one.

6. Awesome! I'm hearing a lot of stories like this.
It's good to see that not all of our older generation buys into the age=more experienced argument. And I think with McCain's new offensive (pun intended), he's going to turn even more older voters off of his message. I have noticed that older Americans seem to respond negatively to mud-slinging. I guess no one knows better than the WW2 generation what can come of out of control rhetoric in political discussions - McCarthy and Hitler come to mind.

5. In my neighborhood
The McSame yard signs outnumber the Obama signs by about 3:2. In this red state that is a big + for Obama.

8. I think here in Virginia...

It's not looking good for signs. But I don't think that's because of anything other than fear of being vandalized.

Put it this way, I live in Fauquier County, a Republican county just outside of "Northern Va"...I live in a pretty decent neighborhood...I guess there are 100 houses here I dont know.

There are TWO TOTAL signs (both McCain). I have a feeling people who support Obama are just sitting the 'sign wars' out and will still vote for him. I dont have a sign in my yard because I live in a caudesac (sp).

9. That's understandable...but I'm surprised...

at the lack of McCain signs. Using just 04 as an example, there were Bush/Cheney and W bumper stickers and signs EVERYWHERE here. There really isn't any reason for a Republican in this state to hide out, or feel like they can't show support. It has historically gone red in the presidential elections. So, like your situation, it's surprising there isn't more support seen on the McCain sign. It's not as if the McCain side feels the same need to be cautious about their support as Obama supporters like you and I do in red areas of a battleground state.

I guess I'm more surprised at McCain's lack of support than I am at the support I'm seeing for Obama. I have seen very few signs and bumper stickers supporting McCain in my travels for work which take me across some very red portions of the state.

12. Yes not many McCain signs here in my area

But like I said NO Obama signs in my neighborhood. I think my neighborhood is probably more Republican than Democratic, but there are at least 7 or 8 of us that drive a Prius, there are two Jewish families that I know of, and a few ethnic minorities here (they display no signs)...Not that all Prius owners, Jewish people, or minorities are lock, stock Democrats, but the diversity of my neighborhood tells me there are Obama supporters here, but no signs. I think we're all opting to let the two knuckleheads with McCain signs enjoy their time.

Outside of my neighborhood in the town of Warrenton, you get a lot more Obama signs as you get into "old Town" Warrenton, this is an area typically more Liberal anyway. These are people who live within walking distance to just about everything (though my area is as well), are living in older, but very nice homes.

I see cars and trucks and I would say in this area FEWER people have sticks in totality than Kerry/Bush 2004. There are fewer Obamas than Kerry stickers, but also fewer McCain than Bush stickers. My thought on that is the Obama people (such as me) are just worried to put a sticker on our car (I had Kerry stickers, but no Obama stickers)...but I am still as passionate for Obama as Kerry (though I REALLY REALLY liked John). And I think the former Bush people are either not happy with it and don't care as much or maybe some have moved to our side (and NO REPUB will ever put a Dem sticker on their car, but they may vote for them).

I did have a meeting with a mother of two of my kids friends. It was soon after Palin was nominated. (You wont believe this). I had been watching CSPAN all day, and my wife and this lady comes home from going out for a glass of wine. My wife happens to mention to me, "so are you still watching all this Sarah Palin stuff?"

This lady jumps right in and comes over and goes, "ohh...you like Sarah Palin...I have my Palin hairdo"...YES, that is actually what she said. My response was, "actually no i dont"...and that was the end of it. I was NOT going to patronize her, but I wasn't going to get into a verbal war with her either.

Virginia is a stealth state...I don't know if we REALLY KNOW what the polls will say come election day.
