McCain's mimeographed accusation about Obama's supposed vote on an overhead projector

In case you missed it, McCain was lying in the debate about a "overhead projector" (which says something about his dated technology prowess) that Obama was for. The project, which Obama actually didn't vote on, was a planetarium. You know, something people who embrace science might want to have to educate people... The fact that McCain, a dude who is clueless about computers, would bring up a 1970's technology such as an overhead projector is revealing in its own right. But about that accusation:

(McCain talking about Obama) “He voted for nearly a billion dollars in pork-barrel earmark projects, including, by the way, $3-million for an overhead projector at a planetarium in Chicago, Illinois,” McCain said during the Oct. 7, 2008, presidential debate. “My friends, do we need to spend that kind of money?”

McCain was referring to a spending request for the 2008 budget. And, indeed, the Web site of Obama’s Senate office shows Obama asked for $3-million for the Adler Planetarium. According to Obama’s office, the equipment had begun to fail and deprived people of a learning experience.

“The projection equipment in this theater is 40 years old, and is no longer supported with parts or service by the manufacturer,” his office said in a June 21, 2007, announcement.

(snip)

...Obama didn’t actually vote for the projector as McCain stated. The request — which was a 10-fold hike from a failed request a year earlier — never made it past the Senate appropriations committee, said Steve Ellis of Taxpayers for Common Sense.

Give it up, McPengiun.

3. Pretty ridiculous way to refer to planetarium equipment
But then, if Johnny McSame was actually interested in technology, he wouldn't have downed so many planes.

4. haha
I didn't even think about what an overhead projector was until this picture. I haven't seen one of those in use since high school! Leave it to McCain to confuse an overhead projector with projectors in a planetarium setup.
