...

U.S. District Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen issued a temporary order barring the opening of early voting sites in Gary, Hammond and East Chicago after meeting Tuesday with attorneys for Lake County Republican and Democratic officials.

Attorney David M. Brooks, who represents the county Republican Party, said the GOP and Democrats agreed none of the satellite offices will open before Tuesday, three weeks before the Nov. 4 general election.

...

Republicans sued in state court last week, arguing that state law requires an unanimous bipartisan vote by the election board to establish satellite early voting offices. Democrats petitioned to move the case to federal court by arguing the case hinges on federal voting rights.

Two Republicans on the Lake County Election Board voted against the sites last month on grounds that in-person absentee voting would make vote fraud easier. The board's three Democratic members then decided they could institute the early voting centers without GOP support.

:wtf:

2. Early voting makes it easier on people who are working two jobs.
And it makes it harder to perpetuate that time-honored tradition of very long wait times in minority neighborhoods.

Republicans don't like early voting.

4. Allowing people to vote might endanger McCain's victory
We can't allow voting to tarnish the image of a McCain victory.
