The elderly women at the McCain rally was LOL funny
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 04:41 AM by GrizzlyMan
The one who said he's "an Arab".

McCain shakes head.....reaches for mic.

"He's not?" puzzled old woman asks in disbelief wondering where she is and what is happening. It was as if someone told her there was no Santa Claus.

I laughed out loud. Maybe in the top 10 funniest moments of the general.

4. But that's the point
Here is this old woman with bad hair and preconceived notions and the candidate she is supporting denies her a moment in front of a room full of people for the sole purpose of some petty attempt to gain some political points. Classic! Saved to my HD forever.

12. Yeah, she probably busts her old hump working for his campaign..
..and in her moment of glory, her hero shoots her down and makes her an example of every ignorant racist voter in America.

Afterward, she stumbles off to be interviewed by some guy on youtube so that a bunch of other people can laugh and make fun of her.

The only way it could have been better is if someone stuck a "kick me" sign on her back as she ambled off. :p

59. Ignorance and Want
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 11:11 AM by annabanana

'Spirit. are they yours?' Scrooge could say no more.

'They are Man's,' said the Spirit, looking down upon them. 'And they cling to me, appealing from their fathers. This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the
writing be erased. Deny it.' cried the Spirit, stretching out its hand towards the city. 'Slander those who tell it ye. Admit it for your factious purposes, and make it worse.
And abide the end.'

It's difficult for me to excuse ignorance, but for the past 7 years Bushco has been drilling TERRA!TERRA!TERRA!, 9/11, FEAR MUSLIMS into the American psyche. McLame and Barbie have been encouraging the public to draw these ridiculous associations between domestic TERRA! and Barack HUSSEIN Obama. Theres some dim bulbs out there and its no wonder that some pugs actually believe Obama is some radical Muslim (which = Arab to these folks) terrorist. I'm glad McLame corrected this woman, but shame on him for feeding her this bullshit misinformation in the first place.

65. It is sad opinions like hers exist.
Is she worthy of your pity though? Perhaps if she was closeting herself because she was afraid, I'd feel sorry for her. She is so impassioned by her views, though, she is comfortable spouting them at a rally, forwarding hate mail to people listed in the phone book and proudly passing her viewpoint on to her children and grandchildren.

I see her as small-minded and bigoted. People like her, IMO, do not deserve pity. Perhaps I cannot feel sorry for her because I take her hatred personally.

32. I'm glad to hear you mention the appearance of the crowd members.
I didn't want to say anything, but in those scenes with the "Arab" woman and the portly guy who's afraid for his unborn child, I couldn't help but notice the, um, un-attractiveness of a high percentage of the audience members visible in the shot.

Considering the rabid right-wing nuttery of the attendees at these slimefests, I'm wondering if this is the "hateful thoughts produce an ugly face" phenomenon that we see in Mean Jean Schmidt and other virulently wingnutty individuals.

Not until that moment did I realize these people actually believe all the lies. Not only do they believe it, they elaborate on the lies, making up more outrageous and bizarre "facts" to go along with McCain's and Palin's hate rhetoric.

If they honestly believe all this crap, they are more likely to act on it.

It is very scary that in today's world, where more information is at your finger tips then ever before, there are people who chose to believe lies and distortions rather than give up their bigotry and hate.

22. The problem with our information age...
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 05:31 AM by stolivodka
...is that's its easier than ever before to automagically filter all the information you receive so that your limited worldview is never challenged by unwelcome "outside" ideas.

You can watch news shows that only report on your preferred dogma. You can visit websites that only espouse your preferred dogma. You can also visit message forums and have free and open discussions that are strictly monitored to ruthlessly censor anything that doesn't perfectly agree with your preferred dogma.

In many ways, our brave new world of custom information management has the potential to expand ignorance to previously impossible and unimaginable heights (or is that lows?).

24. As pathetic as she was, she did Obama a favor...

Up until that point, the McCain camp had been able to hide behind the (admittedly sorry) pretense that they weren't hearing the crowd comments, or that it was just an isolated wacko.

Then she grabbed the microphone and spoke those words right into McCain's face. He was forced to respond in the moment. That's not his strong suit.

The result was, he denounced what she said in a way that was much stronger than anything his Rovian buddies would have scripted for him. He got booed by his own crowd, and upset a lot of the hard-line base that he's been struggling so hard to get.

On the other side of the coin, he probably didn't convince many people that he's honorable, given the ads and the attacks by Palin and others.

He's sitting in the middle of a schizophrenia sandwich. Yesterday he promised crowd members that he'd take the Ayers attack to the next debate. Today, he's talking about being respectful.

It hardly matters what he says tomorrow. Either way, he contradicts himself and looks "erratic."

In addition to feeling pity that she would be in fear, I think she was ill. She reminded me of my mother when she was in her last stages of COPD. She had a hard time getting words out because she wasn't getting enough oxygen to her brain. And even lifting her arms to brush her hair made her out of breath. I often saw my mom with the same bedhead look that that lady had.

I work at a Nascar track (yeah, I know) and one elderly lady told one of my workers that she was scared because there were two men that looked scary to her. They worked for a clean-up company. Why did they look scary? One was black and one was Indian. My response was that they were here doing a job and if she is that scared of people of color then maybe she should go home and hide. This really pissed me off. I guess that she thought that an official would remove them. Wrong. Yes, it happened in the south, but good grief, don't these people ever learn? There is no excuse for such ignorance. Demographics and age are not an excuse either. My parents and grandparents were all born and raised in the south and they never had that kind of attitude with people that looked different. I wish these people would get a clue.:grr:

these people go to hear McCain say the things they hear (or think they hear) everyday on talkradio and Fox. Much like someone going to see a band to one song-their big hit. When he doesn't (he IS supposed to take the highroad) they get upset.

Vicious little circle they have created. Much like diluting confidence in the "the media" and then not being able to use the media effectively.
