Telemarkets quit over calls against Obama

At least three telemarketers in Wisconsin and West Virginia asked to make calls bashing Barack Obama and linking him to 1960s radical William Ayers quit their jobs rather than read the required script.

The calls were paid for by the McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee and are being placed in several states across the country.

In Wisconsin, some of the anti-Obama calls were being placed by workers at telemarketing firm Sitel in Madison. One of the callers there, Ted Zoromski of Middleton, said that he quit his job rather than read the required script that attacked Obama and the Democratic Party.

Zoromski, 26, said he was told upon hiring that the call he'd be making was more like a survey than a partisan attack, so he quit. Zoromski said he was a Democrat.

Huh? This is not a Republican party workshop. People are hired to sit there and make calls.

People need work. This is just a job to most of them. Some have shown they will forgo their paycheck in order to retain their principles.

I would describe the experience as "soul destroying" and "dignity killing", but they take those things from you when you sign up and impound them.

10. Good, I got two of those calls tonight

as I laid the phone receiver on the counter and let them drone on and on and on, hoping to save someone else in the state from having to hear it.

I don't know much about law. How anyone could get away with making false and deeply misleading assertions like that?
