Can you bring in a video camera into a voting booth.?
Can a person actually produce evidence that a vote flipped.............that would be a good thing to do.

2. fine, I was just thinking after reading about all the vote-flipping, that if a voter
could produce evidence that his/her vote was flipping, we could be on to something. We could send the video to the media, etc.

5. yeah, it's a great idea.
The odds of catching funny business would be better if a still camera were hidden in a voting booth(s), but then that would be violating the privacy of the voters.

If that happened to me, I would create a loud, spectacle... refuse to leave until my vote was recorded correctly.

3. Depends upon the jursidiction.
You would need to check your local and state election laws.

4. Many small or pocket sized digital cameras will now film short pieces of video
which can be stored on SD cards.

7. In Maryland, electronic devices must be turned off in the voting area...
unless there is some special need.

8. I would think most states would have laws against it...
because of the potential for voter intimidation.

9. I would think that would be highly inappropriate. Voting is private
and secret. When one adds the intimidation of cameras into the polling place, it sends a chill down the spine.

I was a Poll worker in Mohave County AZ one year, the law, (at that time, it may have changed), was that there was to be no interference or electioneering within 100 feet of the polling place. Some RWnuts showed up w/Reagan signs and a bullhorn, set up right on the steps and began long tirades at those who were coming to cast a vote. I went out and said they'd have to move to outside the barrier line and decrease the volume or not use the bullhorn, I was ignored. I did what we were told to do, I went in, called a special # we were given in case there were "irregularities" at the polling place and w/in 5 minutes the Dept of Public Safety, (State Troopers), showed up, took the signs, bullhorn and people and carted them away. No questions, no requests to move, they were arrested on the spot after one of the DPS Sgt's read them their Rights and charged them. It was an amazing thing to watch. Several people who had stayed outside of the barrier came forward to cast their ballots, relief written all over their faces, they had indeed been intimidated by those who insisted on their "1st Amendment Rights"

I'm all for the 1st Amendment, I think it is one of the most important things a society has ever come up with, but laws and regulations were put in place so that intimidation would not become the norm. I would think that cameras would have the same effect, they would create an atmosphere of intimidation.

12. If I take my cell phone into the voting booth and video the screen
for MY vote how is that intimidation?

14. Perhaps not, but I would wonder if you were capable or willing to
take a pic of somone else's ballot. I know in my current district, they are very strict on the use of cell phones and the like in the polling place, they require all electronic devices to be shut off before entering the polling place unless absolutely necessary.

As a former Poll Worker, hte rules for privacy overrode any persoanl feelings I might have. If the people I mentione dabove had been D's, I would have done the same thing I did w/the reagan supporters.

16. I have worked the polls in the last 3 elections
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 10:56 AM by goclark
Not working there for this election but will GOTV driving people to the polls etc.

The issue with taking your personal cell phone into the voting booth never came up to my knowledge.

Now that we are well aware that the last election was not Diebold proof, I see it as the only way that one could question their "fixed by Rove" machine.

19. Not sure how it is statewide, but locally, they require you shut
off all electronic devices, unless necessary for mobility/safety reasons.

And if you would start to take, or look like your taking pic's of those there to vote, you could get arrested if someone complains.

How have you been my friend? :pals: How are you and yours? How is your work/school?

wow! Impressive to hear that the vote is protected even back in the (shudder) Reagan days. Although Reagan and NIxon seem somewhat sane when you compared them with Bush. Sometimes around here you don't get that feeling from the way people talk.

In my precinct, party folk stand right outside the doors handing out candidate slates, etc., and pretty much always have. Not sure if it's 100 feet or not.

Although I don't have a problem with electronic voting machines (our county is totally blue and they were very careful about researching the machines, from what I heard), I don't like standing there with only miniscule wings of the machine, to protect my privacy. After 30 years of voting in a curtained booth, it's a big change to be standing out there in the open, almost like being at an ATM. I'm kind of surprised voters groups haven't complained about that...

:hi:

15. School is going fine, I am now majoring in Alternative Fuels/Ethanol
and as far as work around here...it is tough...:eyes:

As far as electronic voting goes...I have always thought there should be a paper trail, a fail-safe thing w/me. If you go to an ATM, you get a receipt, if I but a candy bar I get a receipt. I have always figured this electronic voting suspicious, especially since such a stink about against a paper trail came up from those that developed the things.

So glad to see you around!!!

17. I guess you could secretly video it with a cellphone camera or something.
I'm guessing that videocameras are against the law. Might tape someone else voting, or create an intimidating atmosphere.
