Notice the states that the candidates are in this late in the campaign
McCain made 3 stops in Colorado yesterday with 2 stops planned in NM today. Barack is in Nevada before going to NM. Sarah Palin is in Indiana and Iowa. Joe Biden is in VA. These must be the states that the two campaigns see as the true battleground for the election?

I do not feel as comfortable about Obama chances in CO as I do with his chances in NM. I think NV is a toss-up, with a slight edge to Obama. I think Obama will win Iowa. However, Indiana will be a very difficult state to turn blue, in my opinion. Virginia has been trending toward Democrats for the last few elections and may be the most important state in the battleground?

1. VA should turn blue - northern virginia, richmond, hampton area...
There should be enough votes if they're not suppressed. My old stomping grounds. :) I now live in Houston & we have a chance with this city but probably not Texas as a whole. Virginia will be easier than Texas.

3. The itineraries always releav the truth. Notice McKneejerk is NOT in PA
It was only 3 days ago that McErratic was pulling out of CO in order to marshal resources and time for PA. I thought that was a crazy move because, although PA has 21 electors, it seemed to be out of reach. If he gave up on CL and also lost PA, then it is hard to come up with any viable path to victory.

And now looking at the itineraries, it looks like McWhackjob has done an about face. It looks like McADD has figured out that PA is a lost cause, and therefore he MUS win in Colorado.

But he wasted 3 precious days in the process. This guy is really inept.

5. Its panic.
His sense of urgency is getting the better of his thought process.

That pretty much sums up everything from his VP pick forward though, doesn't it?

7. I'm going to kill the suspense for you. This election won't be all that close.
Iowa, New Mexico, and Colorado are all going Dem. That does it right there. We will win quite a bit more after that bringing Obama up to about 370 EVs.

9. I won't celebrate prematurely
But once they call VA for Obama (please please please), I will have the champagne nearly ready to pop. I am floored. I spent a great deal of my formative years there, and was used to settling for the statehouse and local contests, leaving the national elections to the R column.

These are exciting times for the Old Dominion.

10. If he wins VA...?
It would definitely look good. I think VA reports their vote totals about 7 pm? So we should have those numbers fairly early.

13. I am just nervous
I am still scarred from Florida 2000 (as we all are).

I remember getting in my car right after voting, and turning on NPR for coverage. They called Florida for Gore. I whooped and hollered all the way home, knowing that Bush couldn't win without Florida. I pretty much figured Gore had it in the bag, and early.

Believe me, I am encouraged by all the polling news in VA, BUT I TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED. I will be nervous for hours that VA wil be reversed or some other nightmare.

I am going to worry myself into a ball of ash by Election Day. :-)

14. Maybe, maybe not with that 7 pm closing time
Several AA precints were ordered to stay open later during the primaries due to a lack of ballots and long lines.

I keep saying over and over again on DU that VA could be the OH of 2004 or the FLA of 2000.

I'm here in c. VA , by the way.

12. You can't draw that conclusion
Some visits are to merely firm up support and keep voters interested, while some might be to pump up downticket races.

The automatic assumption that a campaign sees a state as viable simply because they visit is untenable. Biden was in Washington two weeks ago. Is Washington a vulnerable state? No. He was there to support Gregoire's run. Consider also that Obama is coming from Hawaii, so he can take the opportunity to visit some Western states before heading back east.

15. This is what I've gathered from news.
Obama will be in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight and then move on to New Mexico Sunday. Obama was scheduled to be in Colorado after returning from Hawaii, however, it now appears he will make a stop in Pittsburgh Monday. Wednesday, Obama and Bill Clinton are scheduled for a rally in Orlando, Florida.

I don't know of any other stops right now.
