Democrats outnumber Republicans by 2 to 1 in North Carolina Early Voting
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 01:25 PM by Quixote1818

If this is true then Obama has around 665,000 votes to McCain's 335,000 in NC. That means McCain already has to make up 335,000 votes or more since Independents are trending toward Obama as well.

>>In North Carolina, which hasn't gone for a Democrat for president since Jimmy Carter in 1976, almost a million people have voted, and Democrats outnumber Republicans by 2 to 1.

1. It's true, but it's not quite what it appears.
A lot of those are registered Dems who vote Republican. However, I would still venture to say Obama is ahead.

5. Excellent point
Party registration is hardly the same as Party ID in North Carolina. In the 2004 election, Party ID in North Carolina was 39% Democrat, 40% Republican, even though the registration figures indicated 12.1% more Democrats than Republicans. This year our edge is up to 13% in registrations, nice but not an overwhelming pickup from 2004. Per usual, the Republicans quietly gained in net registrations from 2004 until 2008, then we swamped them in calendar year 2008.

As Zynx indicated, no doubt Obama is ahead in North Carolina, and significantly, but the margin is overstated by those who rely on registration figures. That state is going to be tight.

2. AND how many of those Republicans have decided to vote for Obama?
I have heard a lot of Republicans switch to Obama this year.. so, perhaps they are still registered as republicans, but came out to vote for Obama because they have been inspired and enthused...

4. Still, it's interesting the early voting is so popular this election....
My feelings are these are people that felt their vote may not have been counted before and wanted to be sure their vote would be counted this time - not waiting for election day and taking the chance of being denied the right to vote at the last minute??
