Talk me down please: Ohio, DOJ & Bush - Army Brigade
I am in New York.

I am concerned that:

1. Some Ohioans are being disenfranchised
2. Boehner, Bush and the DOJ will be ensure that all Ohioans are disenfranchised
3. Civil unrest will occur
4. The army will be there to put it down
5. Bush will declare martial law
5a. OR McCane will be "selected"
6. Bush will not leave office
6a. OR The election will have been stolen again

What can I do about this? What is the State of Ohio doing about this? What is the ACLU doing about this?

Am I overreacting? (I don't think I am) Please, for the love of all that is good, what can/are we at DU doing about this?

If you think I am bonkers, please tell me so....I'd looooove to hear that...it would make me feel better in this instance.

something concrete that tells me this can't happen. Anyone?

Your silly imagination is not.

Maybe living in reality for a day or two would help.

4. You are overreacting. First, Ohio is not even the necessary state this time.
Second, I think this is a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing. Absolutely they are trying to disenfranchise people. Republicans always do. They have been doing that since the 1960s. They love it. It's nothing new. However, we have still won elections.

Ok, you are right about Ohio not being the "key" state this year...
Does anyone, and I mean this seriously, have any idea why that brigade is being assigned there? Someone in the military got a plausible explanation?

15. A brigade is not sufficient to deal with mass civil unrest. A single city takes a divison.

11. It's a segment on Rachel Maddow's show on MSNBC.
She brings up a topic she is worried about and has an expert on to quell her fear....but most of the time they just prove that she does have something to be fearful of.

40. No, a brigade was not "dispatched"
A brigade that is currently stateside (not in Iraq or Afghanistan) was tasked with serving as a back-up should things like forest fires, hurricanes, etc require federal involvement. This is nothing new, despite the tinfoil hattery that has been flying around.

and we'll probably still take Ohio. Don't you think winning will be just that more sweet? They are shitting bricks right now cause they know we're going to have all 3 branches and most likely several Supreme Court nominations.

23. The Obama ground game
in Ohio is pretty awesome. Way way way better than what Kerry had. I have a friend who went to OH in 04 to work on the Kerry campaign and said it was underfunded and disorganized. The Obama campaign is a very organized and well funded operation. I am confident they have it together.

What is Bush going to declare Marshall Law with? Our soldiers are in Iraq. I really don't see that happening.

with their use of modern technology as well as the tried and true GOTV methods.

This is the answer that makes me feel better...thanks for allowing me my moment of irrationality and saying something helpful.

(Yes, Marshall Law is implausible, but I'm a crazy New Yorker, and after what we've been through it's easy to believe Bush can MIHOP his way into anything.)

33. I understand how you feel
For all the good polls, both nationally and state, I have my moments of doubt, fear and lack of optimism. It's an emotional roller coaster ride.

I don't worry about Bush trying to stay in power. I don't think he really wants to and I don't think he gives a shit about McCain enough to bother to do much for him. The Republicans will have to eat this one and regroup for 2012.

25. Too late.
Even if the Republicans get the DOJ to appeal to the SC over HAVA and get a ruling against Brunner,
those newly-registered voters can still vote a provisional ballot.

I would be willing to wager some of those new voters already voted. Then what can they do?

Matters not, though. I have a suspicion Obama will win Ohio without those votes; this is all just a ploy for Repukes to scream about 'fraudulent voters' to their base and raise money from them after they get their clocks cleaned.

Don't give up on Ohio. SoS Brunner is fighting these shitstains tooth and nail.

And winning.

30. You are right in being concerned.
All I can say is pay attention and be ready to act on Nov. 5th. All the information is out there to be had and all you can do is trust your own common sense. For all those that are trying to tear you down, perhaps their information sources are more narrow than yours. So trust in your gut and go your own way. I am.

I can empathize with your feelings considering you were actually in NYC for 9/11 and have seen the results of our last two elections. You have thought ahead and connected the dots. Hopefully the Obama campaign has it all under control. That is why I respect him so much.
FYI, for those you thought the Brigades were all in Iraq and Afghanistan I posted the following link to inform you a Brigade is now permanently stationed in the US.

Brigade homeland tours start Oct. 1

3rd Infantry’s 1st BCT trains for a new dwell-time mission. Helping ‘people at home’ may become a permanent part of the active Army
By Gina Cavallaro - Staff writer
Posted : Tuesday Sep 30, 2008 16:16:12 EDT

The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys.

Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home.

Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.

47. No matter how many of you DUers there are who think you
own the way the collective DU should run and think, you don't. So I'll take your sarcasm, and pathetic arrogance, and I'll go ahead posting what I feel and think until the mods/admins decide I shouldn't.

I know you think your clever, along with so many others here, but again, there are many of us here who are still capable of having opinions, ideas, "concerns", that are not sanctioned by this collection of self-appointed know-it-alls and bullies.

All you did was recalibrate, nay, reinforce, my feeling that I am here because I have thoughts just like you do, and whether you like them or not, I will continue to post them.

And finally, to all those who are part of the group I refer to above, and you know who you are, who post things in other threads like "Don't worry it's not getting any traction" or "That person is a fucking moron", those who think what they have to say is somehow so much more important than what some of the rest of us have to say, I forgive you for being blinded by your own internet ego.

Regards
