Richard Wolfe (Newsweek) Obama eyeing late raid into Arizona
(doesn't sound like what a campaign would do if things are collapsing around them):

Richard Wolffe at Newsweek reports that the Obama campaign may be eyeing a late move into Arizona:

The campaign is now seriously examining a late surge into the state. That may include ramping up TV advertising, on-the-ground staff or even deploying the candidate to stop there. Obama is scheduled to make a Western swing late this week, making an Arizona visit possible.

According to Pollster.com’s averages, Arizona is a 6 point race in McCain’s favor, compared to Pennsylvania--McCain’s best hope of picking up a blue state--which is an 11-point race in Obama’s favor. That means Obama has more reason to travel to Arizona than McCain does to Pennsylvania, no matter how far-fetched it once seemed to try to win McCain’s home state.

1. GOBAMA! I hope he does hit AZ; I'd love to see what kind of interest
he can draw to a rally, and this move would appease a lot of people.

7. If the polling is that close, it means there are a lot of people
who would come to a rally.

And I'm sure I'm not suggesting something here that the more professional people on the campaign haven't thought about, but I'm wondering how many voters who feel a bit disenfranchised because it's McCain't's home turf would get out and vote if they thought the state was in play. I have friends in NY and CA who will cheerfully vote for 3rd party candidates -- to my horror and outrage -- because they know their states are safely and overwhelmingly going to go blue. But if the Obama campaign put in and appearance in Arizona and gave the impression they think we could swing blue, how many extra people would it bring out?

I think it would be worth it, if only for the demoralizing effect on the McCain't supporters. And I know a few. . . . .

2. McCain's milkshake is about to be drunk
for running such a sleazy negative campaign.

3. They should throw a bunch of money into AZ just so McCain has to as well
AZ is not incredibly important in terms of electoral votes for either candidate but McCain couldn't lose AZ for image purposes so he'll fight hard for it on limited resources.

4. "Pennsylvania--McCain’s best hope of picking up a blue state--"
WTF? Wisconsin and Minnesota are "closer" (in quotes because they are high single or double-digits difference per pollster.com) in the polls than PA and they were both "blue states" in previous elections. I wish the damn media would stop promoting this crap about PA.

5. ASU polling has it at 46% Mccain, 44% Obama. I was hoping he'd at least make a stop here
just to embarrass Mccain with the crowds.

I'm an AZer who has said repeatedly that no way would McCain lose here--I would so love to eat my words. I think I will be seeing Obama live very, very soon! Please, Obama--come here if even for an hour or two!

6. I've been wondering if he would consider going there
Arizona has been close for some time. I've been hoping that he could win Arizona.

9. I heard he's making a south west swing sometime soon
He should add a stop in AZ. I think it would give a great boost. Maybe in Tucson.

He'd get a lot of folks excited.
