Canvassing and really digging deep into the neighborhood

I went canvassing today into a neighborhood that is transient with lots of apartments. I was with another woman who is very assertive and together we don't let things slide. A lot of apartments had newer residents who were not on our list. We talked to them all, got their names, their phone numbers and convinced most of them to get registerd and vote for Obama on election day. In NH you can register on election day.

This is the real benefit of GOTV. Finding people who are not on the list, who are aware but not really thinking about voting....their lives are filled with some kind of drama or they just don't think their vote is going to count. We added three new democrats to our universe today. People who will get called on election day and offered rides to the polls. People we will urge with urgency to come along and vote for Obama and other dems in NH. We also sort of startled an elderly lady who, altho is voting for local dems, was considering McCain (it's the black thing). My partner stressed the importance of social security and how McCain favors privitizing it and Obama wants to be sure she keeps it the way it is. She acted like this was the first time she ever heard this. She got wide eyed for a split second and we could tell the wheels were turning. She WILL think about that. Hopefully she will vote for Obama.
